Katie, Musicians don't age like other people. I'm a Clarinetist, I'm 78 and I feel 14...not:) I think having played for so many years have given me an excellent breathing system and has kept me active mentally. You are just starting your life adventures as a musician, and you will keep learning your entire life. Perfection is subjective, so as long as you love what you do and enjoy sharing with others, I think your musical growth will occur naturally. Stay well, strive for happiness. Cheers, Rik Spector

I think you're an amazing ambassador for the flute. If I had had you as a role model when I was young, I would definitely have been inspired and more motivated. I only played the flute for two, very mediocre years but I regret that now. (Although part of that decision was moving from one state with an amazing school band director to another system that didn't make sense to me. Along with going from a house to an apartment.) But I still am not very musically inclined. Anyhow, keep up the great work you do. I know there are things you want to accomplish and I truly hope they happen, but these videos of yours could truly be a lasting legacy and inspire so many others. On another note, 28 seems very young to me, so definitely don't stress about your age. It is just a number.

My university's flute studio (that I'm a part of) is doing a virtual flute choir in light of a lot of schools doing remote classes now due to the COVID-19. We have around 50 people that reached out, so right now we have our flute studio leading Zoom sectionals for a Nicole Chamberlain piece and we will all eventually record ourselves individually and the videos will all be edited together. It's really great to get people playing again in large groups, especially since most ensembles are halted for the rest of the semester.

Can you all imagine if all your followers really Could get together... man... that'd be a huge group. I was finally able to meet James Galway a few years ago in Dallas, TX. I did the same and got his signature and took a couple pics with him and his wife. I was so excited since I'd never been able to get to any of his other concerts due to distance. I see a Lot of myself in you and a Lot of your responses about your life and flute playing... like a Lot! It's crazy! Except the sax thing... I'm a pretty good actor sax player and played it in jazz band from Jr high through college since nine of the bands ever wanted a flutist. I've also been playing piano since I was 2 and started singing when I was about 8 or 9. My mom was a singer but it wasn't always my fav thing since I didn't want to be labeled as "Oh! You're Sharon's daughter" Funny enough, it still happened until I was in high school and competing in local/region/area and state auditions. People finally started to do it to my mom when they met her... "Oh! You're Shelly's mother" Lol Oh and yes, I'm still a very active musician... 35 years and still going!

Therefore, I challenge you to learn and play from memory the first movement of any famous flute concerto in two weeks.
