I just received this vice and the AR-15 master kit for my birthday from my beautiful wife. I also bought a bench from harbor freight. I found the smart jaws on GBroker and will be buying them on Friday. Can't wait to build my 1st AR.

That is awesome! Glad to see another person exploring the build community.

Have you had any problems with debris getting stuck in the ball head socket? I do lots of filling and sanding on metal, wood, and composites. Wondering if that exposed socket would cause me grief. Thank you!

I hand checkere a few 1911s on it. Not too much of a problem. Mine came with a ton of grease on the ball, i cleaned it up and run it dry. Then I vacuum up the chips before adjusting it.

I hesitate between this one and the new workstation... seems it can do the same things. Which one do you prefer?

I am going to give you the dreaded... it depends. If I am building or doing heavier gunsmith activities, I like the Vise better. If I am cleaning or mounting optics, I like the workstation better. The workstation is not designed for jobs that require torque, like barrel nuts and muzzle devices. While I can mount a scope on the vise, the workstation is more efficient to do so. I can, and have, cleaned rifles on the vise, but again the workstation is better for this task. I like both, but for what I do, the Vise is my go to because of the tasks that I perform.
