The compressibility factor is the ratio of the molar volume of real gas to the molar volume of an ideal gas at a given Temperature and Pressure. Compressibility factor (Z) tells us whether gas is more or less compressed as compared to an ideal gas at that Temperature and Pressure. By compressibility factor(Z) we can determine whether attractive or repulsive forces are dominating within the gas molecules at that point in time.
