Welcome back! It has been a long time huh? Anyways, last time we were building this park, we build a family oriented B&M Wing coaster. Now, in this episode, we will be focusing on finishing the adventure island (which still hasn't got a name) by theming both the wing coaster, which no will be called Huayra thanks to the input of one of you, and the Zierer Star Shape ride (finally!). While doing so, we will focus on several structural engineering concepts that will make you understand why B&M is the best option to choose when selecting a ride for your park as an engineer, and why B&M is the most structurally stable coaster manufacturer.
There's several reasons to this, going from the extreme reliability of these coasters, to the wide variety of intensities their products give, but, most important of all (from an engineering aspect at least), it's because the B&M's track acts as a redundant structural element! The B&M spine is so thick and sturdy, the track only needs supporting to keep itself from falling to the ground, meaning that most of the forces exerted by the trains on the tracks are absorbed by the track itself! This is a huge thing, because it not only gives more redundant elements to a coaster (which increases the security margin of it), but it also means less supports will be needed to hold the coaster in place, which in consequence makes easier to build around these coasters since there's less structural elements to be careful about.
Other theme park engineering related questions we will be solving are why do theme parks build lakes so shallow, why support footers are made out of concrete and why do they need to be thicker the higher the concrete goes, as well as why bulding a circular arch in order to build a bridge that can only be supported at the edges of it is not the optimal geometry to build structural wise, but a series of straight pieces of beams are a better solution.
Hope you enjoyed the video, and stay tuned for more engineering gaming in the future!
