That or Dyneema, I’d recommend the Ironwire from Lawson Equipment. It has a polyester shell to protect the Dyneema core from abrasion, is almost as thin as what is being used here, and has a tensile strength of 650lbs!

Hey bro!! Before you try any major modification, chuck some small pulleys with little bearings in them on the 2 bolts that you wrap the cord around at 9:25, those screws will be creating so much resistance, and I wouldn't be surprised if chucking a tiny bearing lined pulley in there on each would fix this!!

I barely have 5% of your maker skills, I'll never be able to even come close to this level of complexity, but I've watched every video with great interest and even learned a couple tricks. Don't give up, it's a good one! (Plus remember - the vids are used to document the process, so from this point of view, the more process - the better! :)

Progress! Maybe start visualizing the compromise target. I haven't seen the movie/game this is based on. But, I would expect the one wielding the blades to swing their arms to facilitate the extension and retraction. Can you assist deployment, in that way? Whatever the weaknesses may by, in the end, you've just got to make a video montage of it working under whatever idealized circumstances necessary. You can always revisit this beast, later. Don't be afraid to be happy with "good enough." Get stoked. You've done a pretty amazing thing.

Tension cable idea: Frame wire (like the kind you put on the back of pictures to hang on walls?) Also, maybe a small metal tube for the routing instead of guide bolts?? At least that's what I would do. Should theoretically make it more consistent and stable
@Artydea

Definitely check out the steel cables. But also if the servo is not strong enough, there is something to do about it, you can go full custom and make brushless servo, it will be even more compact and powerful. This looks very good, it just can not "get scrapped". You don't know me, but actually I'm working on some similar custom servo-related stuff, if the problem is in servo and you don't want to bother with a custom one, I would be happy to help with that. Brushless motor + custom gearbox + magnetic encoders for position control.

You’re kicking ass, so just keep doing what you’re doing. I’m pretty new to your channel so I’m not sure if you like suggestions in comments, but here’s one anyway… I could be wrong, but it looked like you had quite a few hard turns with the string around those button heads. Seems like you lose some power because of it. Wondering if you could soften those turns by routing the cable through some small tubes epoxied into the arm.
