What year did you take cosmetology? I ask because, up until about 5-10yrs ago the majority of black women were only interested in straight hair. For a lot of women, wearing out their natural hair simply wasn't an option (until of course we changed our mindsets in recent years). So I think that's why your cosmetology classes only taught about relaxed hair. If however your classes were more recent, then yeah, I agree with the other comments, it's time they changed their curriculum to include natural hair types.

Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been natural for 2.5 years and have been at shoulder length the entire time. I was starting to think it was because I have 4b/4c hair, but it’s because it’s been experiencing breakage this entire time! Last year, I always wore my hair out during the day and did braid outs every single night. I’ve started to deep condition every week, cut off the brittle ends I’ve been hanging on to, using the LCO method while putting my hair in twists, and wearing wigs. I suffer from drier hair as well so I moisturize my twists every other day. I’ve only just started doing this about a month ago, but I’m already feeling like my hair is doing SO much better!

I heard terminal length was a thing is this true? I always hear that from other youtubers but u said no matter our hair identity we could grow long hair
@PowerInYourCurl
5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thank you for asking this question, it's a really good one. :) Terminal length is a concept you can decide for yourself to believe in. For me personally, I don't put limits on anything. I have seen my hair grow longer than I ever thought possible and I have seen the hair of women all over the world no matter what their skin color or curl pattern grow past tailbone length, to their knees, to the floor and some women have hair that trails behind them as they walk. I believe that if you are healthy and your hair is at optimum health it will continue to retain length and become longer. As Divine Energy, anything that I truly desire to have is possible for me. No matter what the odds or what the physical world says. Words and thoughts are powerful and I truly believe that what you believe is possible for you is what you will live; and that can work to your advantage or your detriment depending on the quality of your thoughts. As far as what science says about hair growth, most sources think that the hair growth cycle for the average human is 5-7 years. Now if hair grows an average of 6 inches a year, that means that the average human can attain a minimum of about 30 inches of hair. Which is still pretty long for most people! I am not an average person though and neither are you, we are Divine and powerful. Also, there are a lot of things that science says that simply isn't true and you have to be very intentional about what you choose to believe and not just accept something as truth because an "authority" said it was so. At the end of the day, it's up to you. ❤️

My hair seems to grow the best in braids, with extensions. I am transitioning. I used Keratin, stopped relaxer. I try to keep it in a bun and I do my own braids with extensions. And everything reversed. My hair matted and broke off to the point where I am back to where I started when I first cut everything off. But I know where my hair can go. It might be super coiled and look short, but length-wise it was past shoulder length. And it will be again. You seem so sweet and caring. Great video.

I just started my natural hair Journey maybe about two and a half years ago I'm learning every day my hair now is about waistline but I'm still wanting to grow it another 4 inches and I figure it'll take me maybe about to 2 years and I am a older person so a woman so I know as you get older your hair grows slower but I've learned a lot because my head Journey started about two and a half years ago and they said it takes about five years to really grow you know a substantial amount of here and I'm saying ways lane or you know down to your tailbone and that's what I was going for down to my tailbone but it's a lot of work I don't believe in a natural hair community cuz we all don't live together I believe that we are women data trying to grow out hair and have healthy hair also so that we can keep it at the lengths that we wanted to be and keep it healthy because I've noticed around me that there are a lot of women that either you know maybe they have health challenges I don't know but I know a lot of them that I've known for a long. Of time they have had perms and a lot of dying and in a lot of damage and I don't know if they're on medication because I don't go there but a lot of them don't believe that they can grow hair so a lot of them have lox and that's okay but a lot of older women don't believe that they can grow here and I've learned I've learned and I'm so glad I learned because I'm maintaining my Lang there's a lot of women when you talk about oils and moisturizers they think it's for white people are Indian people but not for African Americans or black people they don't believe it oh that's not for me that's what Indian people and I move on you know and I do my thing but that wondering how did she get the length I get the line because I practice what I preach and I Don't Preach too much only to myself my children my girls but I want them to have healthy hair just like I took them to the dentist because I wanted them to have a healthy mouth and beautiful teeth I want them to have beautiful hair that'll last them from now until and it's very important because there's a lot of people out there that will sell sell you. Many fail to realize that protein is vital for curly hair. My hair is 4c (high porosity) and I’m very careful with products that contain alcohol. I make my own shampoo using raw aloe vera, water, and coconut oil. All that is mixed in a blender and tada! natural home made shampoo. Trust me, it lathers like wow. I use hemp and baoboa conditioner after. I wash my hair every other day. Also food intake plays a vital role as well. I’ve been all natural for 2 years now. No heat/chemicals. I use to wash my hair every day but I switched it up to every other. It has gotten so thick and more work 😬🙋🏻😁 Sending you all lots of positive vibes 😉

MRS J It’s from Shea Moisture (Mongongo Hemp Seed) blue container. You can purchase it from either Sally’s Beauty Supply, Walgreens, CVS, Target, or Walmart for $12.99-13.99 the most. Noticed I stated on my comment I’m very careful with products that contain alcohol. When you do decide to purchase the conditioner I mentioned, don’t be alarmed by the Cetearyl, Stearyl, Cetyl Alcohol. Those are good fatty alcohols derived from vegetables (fats). Commonly used to emulsify hair products, cosmetics, etc. The ones you would want to avoid are Ethanol, Isopropyl, Methanol, and Denat Alcohol. But those are mostly found in skincare but I’ve also seen them in hair care products as well. Those alcohol are drying. 🙋🏻

Im at armpit length at the moment. Use black seed oil hemp oil and a little bit of jbco mix it together and use it to seal in your leave ins. Find a protective style that suits you whether its wigs braids or twists. Trim the bad ends holding onto bad ends stunts growth. Aim to deep condition every week or every two weeks. Try shea moisture Manuka honey mask. Dont touch your hair unless you need to moisturise restyle or wash it. Try bentonite clay and acv as a mask it helps to open up the cuticles and allows more moisture to come in. It also cleans the hair without it being dry and defines curls. Never used chebe clay before but I heard its good you can give ti a try and see how it goes.

Hemp oil is the truth ! And I don’t understand why it is such an underrated oil. Otherwise, when deep conditioning, put a shower cap on so the moisture can penetrate better in your hair. When you want to put products in it, or you wet your hair with warm water or you heat your products ( not in plastic ) and put it in your hair. Also don’t forget to do the “ pray hands “ method because it will help the products to penetrate your hair because if you only throw it in your hair, it won’t fully go in it. Also sleeping with a satin scarf / bonnet / pillow will help. If you do this and what the others advised you to do, you’ll have significant changes. And also be patient because the changes won’t be noticeable on the length in a first hand

I think I fell out of love with my hair when I started turning gray (I do color it and I am relaxed). I think, or should I say I KMOW, the main issue for me was that I. Was. Not. Consistent. Now I shampoo and apply a treatment mask every Monday and if I feel I need it I’ll add a tad of jojoba oil since it closely resembles human sebum (oil). So I guess I’ll be in my mid sixties rocking my long hair when others are cutttng theirs off.

The early stages is the time to experiment and figure what type of products and the routine that works for you😎. Paying attention to how your hair feels and react to products and the regimen you have it in. Does your hair feel great after and for days after using a product or does it feel dry and tangled a day or so later. For the sake of your hair and purse, experiment with products that you wouldn’t have an issue buying multiple times especially when the purse strings get a bit tight! But be aware that your hair will react different with the seasons and also as it gets longer. I find spray leave-in conditioners a waste of money and you can make up your own that will be way cheaper. I didn’t realise I had all that to say 😂😂 good luck on your journey!

@PowerInYourCurl
5 жыл бұрын
Not yet! That's a great idea for a video though, thank you lol. I don't steam my hair personally but it is very similar to deep conditioning. You apply your deep conditioner of choice to damp or wet hair, pile your hair in a loose bun on the top of your head (or let it stay loose if it doesn't touch your shoulders curly), DON'T wear a shower cap or processing cap, use medium heat/steam for 30-45 minutes. Over-steaming will damage your hair so you only want to do this once a month (2x a month if you have exxxtra thirsty hair).

@maricarichardson4217
5 жыл бұрын
@@Browndigs69 I hope you dont mind me speaking in. You want to steam your hair without a cap because so the steam can pump in the hydration in the hair and it helps the scalp breath. Something similiar as getting a facial from and esthetician. They steam the face to open pores, hydrate skin, and allow product to soak in. Putting a cap on prevents this. If your hair is dry after steaming (which I have experienced). Consider a different deep conditioner. My hair mask did the same thing and swapped it out. And lastly, make,sure you're rinsing conditioners, masks, ect. With cool water.

Game changer I did dc with heat. and eventually started moisturizing with h2o, and oils (avocado, joba, olive(ride or die) mango butter( I know its thick but it works 4 me). The alternating hairstyles for me is flexirod( airdry most ) and Flatwrap. btw Im relaxed . thx for the share

Everybody hair grows. Unfortunately the retention method is the issue for most. Most naturals in my community don't have a regiment. Don't know their porosity or hair type. Don't understand single strand knots. Don't do the loc method at least twice a week. Don't stretch every day. Stretching my twists on wash day is how I got to waist length. I don't use heat unless I'm deep conditioning under the bonnet.

Wow, I really needed this! Not even just for info on proper hair care but for my emotional and mental health as well. I did not realize how stigmatizing i was towards my own hair texture. I am so insecure about my natural hair. I thought that i could never grow long hair because i have never seen it around me or if i did, it's because they were mixed. I am tired of wishing that i was someone else or a different ethnicity because of my hair texture. I realized that i treated my hair the exact same way i thought about my hair; but it is all lies. 2022 this will be a goal of mine! Healthy and flourishing hair !! Thank god i stumbled across this video! Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

I know you’re not asking me but I gave myself 3 months on the same routine and my hair loved it. 2 years later and I’m still on the same routine and my hair has thrived from damaged to healthy

Hi 😀 new subscriber here. About a year ago I stopped following so many others regimen. All the differences you named was talking about "ME". Everyday I was watching and picking up others ideas that worked for them. Now..my hair is so beautiful at slightly passed bra length due to learning my own hair likes/dislikes.

I hear you on that one. I finally realised last year that butters (shea, mango etc) are to heavy on my strands and stop me re-moisturising my between washes. Now I use leave-in and oil or styling creme for styling. Making that change vastly improved the quality of my hair.

My hair is healthy and I’ve been natural my whole life but 5 years ago I got heat damage and I cut it off. It has grown a bit but it “wont grow” like it used it🙁

It's only one reason why you feel your hair isn't growing because you're not seeing length meaning your hair is breaking off find out why is breaking off and fix it then you will start to see length.
