Excellent interview. Dispatchers are amazing. In the 80's I worked for a small department in the Bay Area. One night we had two guys shooting at each other. One behind a car and the other from an upstairs window. We had one dispatcher working. She handled our units. When she could not get a response from them, county was monitoring and ask her if she wanted a code 30 (all available units from all agencies respond). She had to ring down fire and dispatch them and an ambulance to a nearby, safe, location incase they were needed. The phone calls kept coming in, with people reporting gunfire on their block with bullets hitting their homes. And, she had to direct the 50 or so police cars to the scene because they were not familiar with our city. Talk about multi tasking! She did a great job!

Taking my CritiCall exam on Thursday. So excited to have a start in emergency service! This was the best thing I've been able to find that demonstrates what the job is like.

Not too bad, I passed with flying colors. Just make sure your typing speed is up because there are long sections where you need to take notes and then answer questions about a call you had. The biggest thing is just to focus because they do things like have you listen to stories with a bunch of useless details and then answer questions about the story. Next step in my case was a board review where I was interviewed. That's where motivation and character really counts. The test I took was for San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department so I don't know how different it might be from others.

The instructions to take notes are onscreen and you can take a test problem to try it out. What could've possibly been distracting you that severely?

What would be considered a good typing speed? My wpm usually ranges from 55-60 so I'm wondering if I should keep working on it for the test. I've been taking a lot of typing speed/10 key tests to help. I can be pretty attentive so I don't think that'll be too much of a problem for me. I'm taking my criticall test in two weeks so I'm pretty nervous. Hope that I can pass.

It was cruel to keep saying "we will" to the caller.
