@dragondancer1814
3 ай бұрын
I volunteered with a police department for seven years (Police Explorer, then Auxiliary) before I “crossed over to the dark side” and traded the badge for bunker gear. I’ll never forget this one drunk we had to deal with on a ride-along with the PD-he was raising a ruckus outside a pizza parlor while drunk out of his skull. We agreed that his carrying the pizza box _vertically_ was bad enough, but he had apparently been chewing or dipping or whatever and wanted to shake our hands repeatedly with his slimy wet hands (we didn’t know what was on them and didn’t _want_ to know!). After we had him stuffed into a cab to go home and sleep it off, we all beelined it into the adjacent convenience store to wash the hell out of our hands! And being in the firehouse, we’ve had our share of frequent flyers too, mostly people with chronic medical conditions or deteriorating health. Most have been pretty nice, but we’ve definitely had our share of drunks, idiots, slobs, and bizarre ones! You have to admit, it’s never boring!

My dad was a police sergeant in my hometown and always told the family his stories about “Steve”. Steve was a local man who was unfortunately on a lot of very hard drugs, but he never REALLY caused problems for anyone. He just made people uncomfortable when they saw him staggering down the street. So my dad would often have to show up and say things like “come on Steve. Just go back inside and ride this one out man. I don’t want to have to take you anywhere tonight” 😂😂 (he usually just took him to the hospital to sober up instead of the jail because he never actually had any of the drugs in his possession while these convos were happening) It’s been about 15 years since all that now and I still often think of Steve and hope he ended up ok somewhere 😅
