Speaking from a Trauma RN's perspective. I have seen a lot of people who wouldnt have come to the ER if their neighbor hadnt been watching out for them. One guy, slipped and fell down his stairs into his basement. Neighbor noticed he hadnt gotten his mail, even though he always got it at the same time every day. Neighbor goes over to check, finds the 72 year old, recently widowed man on the floor of his basement, trying to set his own damn broken leg with duct tape and pair of framing clamps.

Head injuries.....horrible crap....lucky you just have migraines. Lol At 4 months old...3 broken ribs....by parents At 6 months old...green stick fractures all 4 limbs 8 months old.....parents held me by ankles and bashed in my skull.... Per my uncle, 12 hours in surgery... putting my skull back together. Heart stopped 90 seconds during surgery. It took 4 operations to place the lenses of my eyes back to where they should be. Right eye is "lazy eye"...doesn't work if both eyes open......so I'm effectively just with one eye Left eye prescription around 750 my entire life.........from 7 feet away (without glasses) .....I can't even see a person's nose. I have nerve damage entire right side.......minor and off/on. Last two fingers on right hand.... actually have to look at them if I want to type O or P. About once a month or so...the nerves in my right ankle just stop for a second. (Had some great falls while hiking with full pack......catch myself...dust myself off..stamp ground to test stability....and...back to hiking) I had to wear braces on both legs (like Forrest Gump) till I was 7 years old. I had Petit Mal epilepsy till I was 9 years old. The skull fracture covered part of brain dealing with anger control.....had to get counseling till I was about 8 years old. (If someone looked at me the wrong way or whispered something about me being pigeon toed....... I'd attack (Hahahaha....imagine 7-year-old me attacking a 6'2" Hawaiian teacher.....hahaha....he picked me up one handed, put me at his eye level...and calmly asked "What do you think you are doing?") The anger issues...were solved by around 9......Since I had no natural controls, I created external controls.....that only failed once from 9 to my now 58 years old.........my dad stole everything I had in bank (we same exact name) when I was 19. My solution was to hire a motorcycle gang member to deal with him) Imagine being 19...all money stolen...and dad managed to get me stuck with 9000 dollars of his debt. My anger management failed me....and I'm the god father to a girl whose father did time for drugs and murder......just told him what happened and asked if anyone could help) But....the only long term effects......I'm blind without my glasses, two-finger typist and right ankle still collapses for a split second ...but now up to 2 or 3 times a month Taught English in Taiwan for 24 years, played softball (outfield), frisbee football, long distance cycling and hiked ALL the highest mountains in Taiwan...1 day hikes to 3 day treks and full gear (I got expert at controlling my fall if ankle acted up....skinned hands better than falling down a mountainside...) (Anger management working....current wife embezzled a good amount from me...and she still alive and undealt with.......)

@@leeshackelford7517 I’m sorry you went through all of that. It’s horrific. I’m glad you don’t have more lasting damage. I experienced abuse as a child too, but nothing like that. Migraines aren’t my only issue, but even if they were, it’s a terrible fate. I’m lying in bed currently, squinting one eye to see the screen. I only get 2-4 pain free days per month. The rest of the time, I’m in enough pain that I struggle with nausea and vomiting daily. I also get stroke symptoms like aphasia, and one-sided paralysis (called hemiplegic migraines). There’s a new medication that’s helpful, finally, but it’s new and expensive and Medicaid refuses to cover it. I also have narcolepsy with cataplexy. It’s interesting that you mention the anger issues. Cataplexy is a bit like fainting goats. If my brain gets overstimulated by ANY emotion, it thinks I’m asleep and paralyzes me. I drop to the floor like a rag doll-fully conscious but unable to move. Anger and laughter are my two biggest triggers, so when it happened I’d just get told off for throwing myself on the ground as some sort of tantrum. My own parents accused me of faking it. I sleep a lot, often when I’m stressed and at inconvenient times, so everyone around me figured I was lazy. I didn’t get my diagnoses until my early 20s, and getting married. It’s been a decade now. We have three kids, but we literally live next door to two sets of grandparents who help a ton. Today, I’m not fit to drive, so I’ll text my MIL to get my son from school. At 3pm, I’ll take my daily dose of hydrocodone and use the 3-4 hours of pain control to do basic housekeeping and make dinner. I only get 4-6 hours out of bed per day.

Even with that said, after I got checked out to see if I was good, I remember texting some of my friends that I fell and hit my head, then like 5 minutes later I would say the same thing. There would be points where I would see my own texts from a few minutes ago and go “Wait I said that?” It was nuts.

I had that happen with a 50 y.o. woman who tripped down the stairs and landed on tile floor at my workplace. She was out for a minute or two. Paramedics later confirmed quite the bump on the side of her head. I made her lie really still and kept answering her questions. When she came to she didn't remember where she was but she could tell me her name. And every minute she kept asking where she was and what had happend. I'm so glad she had a friend with her that was able to confirm to the paramedics who she was and call her husband. She came by our shop about 5 months later. Turned out she didn't trip but fainted and fell. She broke one ankle, fractured a vertebrae and turned out to have a benign brain tumor that needed out that had made her faint. I still get goosebumps just thinking about it.

When you think someone is alert and "normal", but then you find is not is incredibly horrifying. I had a worker in my job with severe chronic anxiety, but she was usually very quiet. One day she came in with the biggest smile, being the happiest and most talkative person in the room. All of the sudden 2 hours before her shift ended she starts shaking, her usual stare came back and was sweating so hard she literally made puddles whenever she put her hands for more than 5 minutes. Turns out she had a panic attack so hard she dissociated from reality and didn't even remembered anything after she stepped out from her home. I had that happen to me. Slipped and hit my head on a desk and the floor really hard, later my dad told me I asked him about 50 times where I was and where my mom was… fun times.

I had a ruptured brain aneurysm about five years ago. I will always take these symptoms seriously forevermore. At that time, however, I drove to work two days laterand taught high school for eight hours. I finally asked my sister to take me to the ER four days later. I'm very blessed to be alive.

"Why are there Christmas decorations in April?" Something I've asked many a time in stores!

I walked into KMART in September this year and stopped in shock. I kid-you-not, on the left side was Halloween decorations and such, the right was Christmas. Like what?!

I just went to a store today to buy a Christmas tree and they had Valentine's Day decorations and candy out.

Can you please explain? I didn't get about April. The dude fell from the height, got traumatised (damaged the brain or imternal organs?), but why are there christmas decorations in what actually looks like April?

@@ldmtag Explanation one is that the patient got hit so hard he forgot the last couple of months and thing this is April The second one is him being insane and going to hang Christmas decorations in April and getting hit so hard he unfucked his brain and started pondering his own actions
