My husband goes downhill mountain biking with his friends. He has had 2 serious injuries. He hit a tree and broke his collarbone and his friends carried him down the mountain. He also hit a tree head on. One of friends have told me that it was one of the scariest experiences they’ve ever had, because my husband was walking around normally but he kept repeating “Did I crash and hit my head?”, then giggling. THIS EXACT THING HAPPENED TO MY UNCLE. He suffered a spectacular concussion after a football game and had to go to the hospital. The entire time he was on the road, he would ask things like if his team won, why he was here, and where were they going. They would answer him, and a few minutes, he would ask it again. _To this day_ he cannot remember ANYTHING from that day. It was completely wiped from his mind.

I had that happen with a 50 y.o. woman who tripped down the stairs and landed on tile floor at my workplace. She was out for a minute or two. Paramedics later confirmed quite the bump on the side of her head. I made her lie really still and kept answering her questions. When she came to she didn't remember where she was but she could tell me her name. And every minute she kept asking where she was and what had happend. I'm so glad she had a friend with her that was able to confirm to the paramedics who she was and call her husband. She came by our shop about 5 months later. Turned out she didn't trip but fainted and fell. She broke one ankle, fractured a vertebrae and turned out to have a benign brain tumor that needed out that had made her faint. I still get goosebumps just thinking about it.

I fractured my leg during 4th grade in P.E. The school nurse told me this “I can put Ice on it or call an ambulance, what do you want?” I chose the ice (because at the time, I thought the EMT’s gave you a bunch of shots in the ambulance, and I was scared of needles.) then decided to join in on races in recess. My leg bone popped again, and I was in more pain. I told the nurse after recess “I need you to call me grandma and to pick me up, my leg hurts.” She RELUCTANTLY decided to call my grandma, and I than had to use a crutch for around a week.

All of the sudden 2 hours before her shift ended she starts shaking, her usual stare came back and was sweating so hard she literally made puddles whenever she put her hands for more than 5 minutes. Head injuries.....horrible crap....lucky you just have migraines. Lol At 4 months old...3 broken ribs....by parents At 6 months old...green stick fractures all 4 limbs 8 months old.....parents held me by ankles and bashed in my skull.... Per my uncle, 12 hours in surgery... putting my skull back together. Heart stopped 90 seconds during surgery. It took 4 operations to place the lenses of my eyes back to where they should be. Right eye is "lazy eye"...doesn't work if both eyes open......so I'm effectively just with one eye Left eye prescription around 750 my entire life.........from 7 feet away (without glasses) .....I can't even see a person's nose. I have nerve damage entire right side.......minor and off/on. Last two fingers on right hand.... actually have to look at them if I want to type O or P. About once a month or so...the nerves in my right ankle just stop for a second. (Had some great falls while hiking with full pack......catch myself...dust myself off..stamp ground to test stability....and...back to hiking) I had to wear braces on both legs (like Forrest Gump) till I was 7 years old. I had Petit Mal epilepsy till I was 9 years old. The skull fracture covered part of brain dealing with anger control.....had to get counseling till I was about 8 years old. (If someone looked at me the wrong way or whispered something about me being pigeon toed....... I'd attack (Hahahaha....imagine 7-year-old me attacking a 6'2" Hawaiian teacher.....hahaha....he picked me up one handed, put me at his eye level...and calmly asked "What do you think you are doing?") The anger issues...were solved by around 9......Since I had no natural controls, I created external controls.....that only failed once from 9 to my now 58 years old.........my dad stole everything I had in bank (we same exact name) when I was 19. My solution was to hire a motorcycle gang member to deal with him) Imagine being 19...all money stolen...and dad managed to get me stuck with 9000 dollars of his debt. My anger management failed me....and I'm the god father to a girl whose father did time for drugs and murder......just told him what happened and asked if anyone could help) But....the only long term effects......I'm blind without my glasses, two-finger typist and right ankle still collapses for a split second ...but now up to 2 or 3 times a month Taught English in Taiwan for 24 years, played softball (outfield), frisbee football, long distance cycling and hiked ALL the highest mountains in Taiwan...1 day hikes to 3 day treks and full gear (I got expert at controlling my fall if ankle acted up....skinned hands better than falling down a mountainside...) (Anger management working....current wife embezzled a good amount from me...and she still alive and undealt with.......)

@@leeshackelford7517 I’m sorry you went through all of that. It’s horrific. I’m glad you don’t have more lasting damage. I experienced abuse as a child too, but nothing like that. Migraines aren’t my only issue, but even if they were, it’s a terrible fate. I’m lying in bed currently, squinting one eye to see the screen. I only get 2-4 pain free days per month. The rest of the time, I’m in enough pain that I struggle with nausea and vomiting daily. I also get stroke symptoms like aphasia, and one-sided paralysis (called hemiplegic migraines). There’s a new medication that’s helpful, finally, but it’s new and expensive and Medicaid refuses to cover it. I also have narcolepsy with cataplexy. It’s interesting that you mention the anger issues. Cataplexy is a bit like fainting goats. If my brain gets overstimulated by ANY emotion, it thinks I’m asleep and paralyzes me. I drop to the floor like a rag doll-fully conscious but unable to move. Anger and laughter are my two biggest triggers, so when it happened I’d just get told off for throwing myself on the ground as some sort of tantrum. My own parents accused me of faking it. I sleep a lot, often when I’m stressed and at inconvenient times, so everyone around me figured I was lazy. I didn’t get my diagnoses until my early 20s, and getting married. It’s been a decade now. We have three kids, but we literally live next door to two sets of grandparents who help a ton. Today, I’m not fit to drive, so I’ll text my MIL to get my son from school. At 3pm, I’ll take my daily dose of hydrocodone and use the 3-4 hours of pain control to do basic housekeeping and make dinner. I only get 4-6 hours out of bed per day.

Head trauma is very serious and alot easier to get than people realize. Most doctors reccomend you seek immediate care regardless of how light the hit to your head was. Your skull might be hard but it is the impact of the brain on the skull that is the serious issue you often cannot see till its too late. If you see someone hit their head in anyway, do not waste time asking yourself "should they see a doctor?" Dont even bother woth that question because the answer, no matter how unserious the injury seemed, will always be a whopping YES seek immediate care. As a child i was hit in the forhead eith a rock another chold threw at a tree and it ricocheted right to me. The injury seemed small just a little cut and a light but steady stream of blood from the cut. Parents didnt think it was a huge deal but of course due to unstoppabke vleeding took me in. Turns out the cut went all the way to my skull and i had bruising on my brain from where by brain impacted the skull revounding from the rocks initial hit. So basically the rock made my brain bounce around like a ball in my head causeing multiple brain injuries. I now have petite siezures, thankfull and gratefully they are mild enough i rarely notice them. But had i not been treated i could easily be more disabled and struggling today. People need to realize the head is a hollow object like an egg. Our bodies are not hollow like that, they are thick and padded with muscles and fat. But our head is literally just a hollow bone ball with a ball as soft as butter inside of it, relatively loose and floating. Your head is actually one of the most vulnerable parts of your body without most people even realizing that.

Exactly. I fell on my head out of a handstand and my spawn points didn't take me to the doctor until the next day because they thought I was just faking a headache for attention. But they didn't just take me the next day, they sent to me school despite the fact I couldn't remember how to tie my shoes (they were convinced I was faking to get out of school). Because I was a quiet kid anyway, teachers didn't notice until I almost passed out, at which point I was sent to the nurse and the classmate who took me had to tell the nurse my name because I replied "What's a name?". 😬 She proceeded to chew my egg donor out, who pretended to have no knowledge of this happening. I was at that point taken to the pediatrician (because of the threat to report to CPS), who prescribed me some meds and 5 days of bed rest. Yeah, wanna guess where I was the next morning? School, where I soon fell asleep because I couldn't stay awake for more than 2 hours at a time. Sent home? Where was I the next morning? School...... Yeah, this continued with a very strict sleep schedule they had made up themselves that was 8 hours of sleep a night (not actually 8 hours, actually 8 hours from starting to get ready for bed until up and dressed), and a single 30 minute nap. Anything else would get me angrily prodded awake for "not following" the sleep schedule. This went on for about a week until I fell asleep face first into my dinner. Thankfully it was like a sandwich and not soup, but they left me there for 5 minutes, waiting for me "to stop faking" (learned that part from my sister, who they didn't allow to remove it). After five minutes they finally moved it after trying, and failing, to wake me. I woke up over an hour later and they agreed I could go to bed early. It was about 6:30 and I didn't wake up till the following afternoon. They still defend that they did the right thing.

My father had a terrifying accident a few years ago. I was helping with the flower beds and weeds at my folks house, and my dad was working on the deck on the 2nd floor outdoors. He slipped and fell 12 feet, landing on his back(thankfully on the grass, and not the patio pavement). When I heard his ladder fall, I ran to see if he was ok. His eyes were rolled back, there was blood on his head and he wasn’t breathing(my dad was 75 at the time). My brother had just died from a work accident, so the idea that another freak accident would cause the death of a family member was horrific. Thankfully the EMT’s responded very quickly and he is ok!

@@del8548 essentially a lot of testing and rest. He had some swelling around his brain that they monitored, but nothing was broken, his ability wasn't impacted at all, so after they kept a close eye on him there he was moved down the levels of intensity of observation and was heading home within a couple days or so. My dad had a number of near-death accidents and lived well into his 60's, eventually dying of complications surrounding kidney failure. Those experiences gave him a very positive attitude even in some really wretched situations.

I fell about 30 feet from a tree when I was a kid. Don't remember any of it! I can barely remember crying about My Chemical Romance breaking up (it was 2013) while on the helicopter. I told two nurses they looked like sisters, and apparently, they were very different looking 🫡🤣 I didn't break anything, barely had any bruises, just a decent knock on my head and a severe concussion.
