I'm sure this is a good tutorial for someone already familiar with using photogrammetry software. Is there any chance you will at some point make a tutorial for people new to photogrammetry?

Thanks for the thorough video. May I ask how you get the second set of images for the texture layer? Are they prepared earlier in a software program or with the camera? Also, if you have 2 lots of photos and are using the PMI licencing model, that would double the cost of exporting?
@CapturingReality

Hello Anti, This second set of images was created in 3rd party sw like Capture One, Lightroom and used proper naming format as suggested in our help section inside RealityCapture. You will be not charged for any additional texture layer, you will be charged only for geometry layers.

i use 4k video with my gopro camera and import it as a video sequence. .. is this not as good as still photos... because the scans look great but when i import the obj file into my 3d printer software,, the image is very rough and bumpy looking... and it prints out with alot of roughness... nothing smooth... can you explain why.?
@CapturingReality

Hello, Using video, may not be enough to receive a mesh that will give a good result when printing. We would suggest using images instead. You can clean rough and bumpy edges on your already created models with smoothing tool available inside RC. We received a message from you so our support will help you with your project.

So... I have scan data from a Teledyne Ladybug 6 and two Ouster LiDar scanners. We do GIS integration for city and county engineers. We would like to turn our scans into fully explorable areas. The data from the ladybug can be output as individual JPEGs that are already stitched together in a spherical view, and the raw lidar can be processed into LAS files. I know this comment comes years after the video, but if you have any idea how I could accomplish this please let me know.

Hi, RealityCapture doesn't support handheld/movable laser scans. You need to use terrestrial laser scanners if you want to work with scans. Or you can try this workflow: forums.unrealengine.com/t/how-to-import-any-scan-data-to-realitycapture-using-cloudcompare-and-faro-scene-how-to-create-ordered-point-cloud-from-unordered/766735

Hi, Whenever I try adding the _texture01 folder, it just adds the additional photographs to the Image Section instead of leaving the image count to the original number and adding the texture layer in Selected Input. When I look at my 2D Image section at the top of the page, only GEOMETRY is highlighted in the Input Layer, not Texture. What am I doing wrong?

Hello, Your videos are great but I'm having an issue as I keep getting a message about not having enough video memory. My project is a drone map with 289 photos, each being 20 megapixels. I would think my new computer would run this program. (Dell Alienware Aurora R13 Gaming PC Intel Core i9 12th Gen 12900KF 3.2GHz Processor; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 12GB GDDR6X; 32GB DDR5-4400 RAM; 1TB Solid State Drive) The video memory message says. ( Not enough video memory, The scene is too big (over 40.0M tris) for your GPU to display in the Solid/sweet mode. Use the clipping box to reduce the displayed triangle count. Your mode will be displayed as a point cloud.) Could you please tell me how reducing the display triangle count is done? Thanks!
@CapturingReality
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, this is just an info. Models bigger than 40 M tris are showed as vertices. When you want to see mesh (solid), you need to use Clipping box and choose a part of your model or you can simplify the model up to 40M tris.

I shot the photos in RAW. But after correcting them in ACD, I re-saved them to JPEG like you said. The size of the photos decreased from 15 MB to 1.8 MB. Does this mean that the image quality will be low for further processing of Reality Capture quality grid or textures? Then I tried to save in TIFF and the image size increased to 72 MB. It is not good for PPI method. How do I re-save images after correction without losing quality and PPI overspending? Thank you.

whats the point of assigning colours to images? this work flow seems unnecessarily complicated.
@jvanko89
4 жыл бұрын
It can come in handy when you are working with large projects, multiple components and you need to place a lot of control points for merging components or fixing misalignments. By assigning colors to windows and photos you can look at multiple selected photos of the same area at the same time and you don't have to switch constantly between them in a single window.

Hello, Thanks for the video. I'm a Metashape user since a few years. Usually I use a rotational table for small elements. I mask it for optimal alignment soo for medium objects like this exemple for the best result. I would like know what is the optimal workflow in this aspect. Thank you very much.
@jvanko89
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Franciso, there are multiple ways how to scan small objects. First you can put your object on a white/black background and set up you camera so only the object and the solid background is in the frame. Take photos and rotate your object manually. This way RC will not detect features in the solid color background. You can also lower the detector sensitivity to help ignore the background features. Another way is to use a rotating table. Again I have a white background, I put the table on it and I also put a white pad on the table. Rotate the table and take photos in multiple loops. Again RC will ignore the background. Another way is to use masks. Put object on a table and make first set of photos. Flip the object and make another set of photos. Align the first set of photos, build mesh on preview, lasso and select the table or other unwanted parts and create masks from model. Repeat for second set of photos in new scene. Next import all photos and masks in a new scene and all masked out parts will be ignored. You can also create masks manually in Photoshop and import the with the right naming convention but that is time consuming. The is more info on masks directly in the RC help. Tutorial about this topic will be out very soon.

For this project I only de-shadowed the images in DxO Photolab and used the color correction built in RealityCapture. Of course you can do it in a 3D texture painting software or in Photoshop after the texture was generated.

Yes, it is possible to model this kind of objects, but it is quite hard, as you need to have object without motion, what is not always possible achieve with trees or bushes. Also, you will need quite a lot of data to capture each detail of a tree. On model could be only things, which are captured and visible on images.

You can use your DSLR camera or even your phone. Then you import the images into our software and following the steps in this tutorial you will get a 3D model.
