Hey everyone, I'm having a very specific issue that I am not able to solve and would really appreciate some help. When I insert a new track on Reaper, and then click the recording arm (in order to select my midi input option in the "input fx window"), there is a seriously loud signal noise that gets louder and louder by the second and doesn't stop until I change its default selection which is Mono: HD Audio Stereo track 1, to Midi input All Channels. So, I want to know why that sound is coming. When I was using Reaper on a different comp before, it wasn't like this. But now on my laptop, this signal clashing sound is coming and it is so freakishly loud to the point of almost giving me a heart attack. Please do assist me!!

12:20 Just wanna add a bit here. Since you're saying Reaper can be used fully without buying the program, I'd like to make sure people don't get this wrong: You can use it to produce music with all features, but if you want to sell that music, you do have to buy the license, legally speaking.

You can even sell your music using the reaper daw as long as you don’t make over a certain amount of money using it, I believe it is 20,000 dollars a year, they allow you to use the discounted license. It’s a pretty amazing company!

In the first fifteen minutes of watching this video, I've learned more about audio production than I have in the last fifteen months from googling terminology I didn't understand or were poorly explained in other software manuals. I've been ranting to my partner that whoever writes guides and manuals for DAW's seems to assume you have a Masters Degree in sound engineering and never try to teach you why you set up in a certain way. So thank you!

Even with the sound muted, one gets the sense that he's absolutely hollering his head off! AMAZING TALENT! For the DAW, thanks for a really good video. It will get you loaded and started and it's definitely a good DAW, loads of people use it. It also comes with a very complete run-down on all that you can do with it and that's a lot. I'm too thick but if you can stand the headaches of learning all that shite, you can go far. BUT YOU MUST WATCH THIS VIDEO WITH THE SOUND MUTED, YOU REALLY MUST!!!! Yesterday I decided to take the plunge and move to Reaper completely as I've been using two Korg D1600 machines midi'd together. I have a Behringer X Air 18 as my audio interface and an X touch as my mixing desk, I like to touch faders. :) I am not a novice but I thought let me see if there is anyone who might be able to give me some more info on my setup as I'm determined to make it work. Looks mean nothing to sound (although you can customize it how you please), it can’t possibly sound better because that’s now how DAWs work, and any other arguments seem to stem from you being a Cubase user and staunchly defending “your thing” simply because of closed-minded territorial affirmations rather than anything solid. Come back when you’ve got some real substance.

Dude, you are awesome. You go over all of the stuff no other person ever does. Nobody ever goes over why there is no sound coming out or how to use any VST. You explain what compression is. Awesome. During this time where I have at least another 23 weeks of boredom, I got inspired to make my own music for my entertainment. I got so excited. I tried Waveform first. Did not like it. Could not get any MIDI to record. Guitar, yes, but nothing else. Long story short, I installed Reaper and found you videos. Just wanted to say thank you. I am 54 and live with my dad. He is flaming pissed at me because I want to buy a MIDI keyboard. Any money I spend is money he spends. So to keep the peace I have to drop it all as I am the dumbest person on Earth. So I will just keep sitting here hoping to never be inspred again. I play guitar a bit. Have not played for several years. Got inspired and knocked down as usual. I will finish the Reaper series. I just bought a ton of stuff from Ghostshack last night. I was really excited. I wanted to create original songs and try some Techno stuff. I love Techno. Well, sorry for the sob story. The only good thing I am at is defeat and depression.

I know I'm almost 3 years late lol, but you truly have a gift for teaching I never ever watch long videos for the sole reason that I get so bored I stop being able to focus properly, but with this video I just kept paying attention the whole time and I found all that really interesting all along, you are amazing

Thank you for your time and consideration to teach us the secrets of reaper. I've been playing drums for 25 years and I'm 39... But as of today I made my FIRST recording on my laptop with a ALESIS and midi/audio cables through my interface. You helped me so much bro!!! I was literally stuck with no sound and no midi info (basically nothing but noises from the drum module power on/off) but because of YOUR CHANNEL I've now git it. I asked 3 people, 2 of which were my bandmates and they were trying (I think) but to no avail. So again, THANK YOU for these lessons and for making me a better person and a smarter drummer 💜😍💜. I'm now a subscriber and will watch EVERYTHING you make on reaper or music period. HOP HOLE STUDIOS IS A GENEROUS PLACE.

Brilliant. So glad I found this channel. It's like the Ken Burns videos in the sense that you don't need to know anything about the subject, and after you've watched, you feel like you've learned a ton and just got a tad smarter. Thanks so much.

Hi, I'm taking my first steps up from bare-bones editing and recording in Audacity and I just have to say your ability to teach me new information effectively and in a manner that doesn't make me feel like total dumb bunny... it's just fantastic and I'm so grateful for these videos!

Just started yesterday. Pro Tools just priced itself out of the home studio world. I thank God for someone such as yourself making this transition as painless as possible. So far, so easy. I'll definitely be buying your Ultimate Guide.

@@adamsteelproducer I will. It'll take some doing, but I did earn a Bachelor's in Mathematics and programmed computers for 5 years professionally. With your book, things should be pretty straightforward.

I’m at 13:06 time wise and I’m subscribing. This is the first video I have watched where you are actually taking me through it and explaining why you are doing what you are doing and I need that kind of hand holding when I’m learning. You are awesome. Thank you.

I changed to Reaper recently after using an outdated Cubase LE5 for years. Thank you so much for explaining things so well and so clearly, you have helped me enormously. Thanks mainly due to your tutorials I am up and running in Reaper and have a reasonable idea what to do. We are not all experts in recording audio and these sort of videos are invaluable in helping all levels from beginner to more advanced.

Hi Adam, as someone returning to audio production after MANY years away, this was just the thing as I’m not a tech head and there are so many little thing that can trip you up in the very beginning when setting up a home studio for whatever use, (in my case songwriting). Setting up peripherals, and getting everything to talk to each other can be a nightmare, sample rates, latency, file type, so many things that can have you scratching your head when things don’t sound right. Most of my experience was as a FOH engineer for club bands using analog equipment and while I did a twelve month course in music production, there has been a lot of time from then till now and with technology moving so fast, I feel like a beginner once again. I’ve known about Reaper for many years and liked it from the beginning. I’m running an iMac and will be looking for a Mac specific setup. Thank you again for this very insightful tutorial and I’ll be definitely checking out more of your work.
