You've made more sense in one video than a number of physio sessions I've had.

Hands down, best video on KZitem for this subject. I just watched a bunch before this that didn't explain the concept as well as you just did. Thanks.

Wow. This is really helpful. I have difficulty understanding this deformity w/ just a picture. Now, I'll just watch your vids. 👍😁🦶

As rearfoot varus is an osseus deformity, functional orthotics will most likely always be needed.

I mean this is exactly what my gait is like, for the love of god what stretches/exercises to correct this? :(( I’ve been trying to strengthen calves/ankles but have calluses on the ball of the foot beneath 5th toe now.

What is a "normal" acceptable degree of varus? My son's left foot is 11 and his right is 5. Not sure if this is degrees or mm's...

It's more about how the foot behaves during the gait cycle. The foot should not be pronating (the compensation)at 'heel lift' as the foot cannot lock to form a rigid lever at push off and causes over rotation of the tibia. This strains the calcaneo Navicular ligament, plantar fascia and other structures, leading to laxity and further instability. In his book 'Foot Orthoses' Thomas C.Michaud says: 'Schoenhaus and Jay stated that the rearfoot varus post should never exceed 7 degrees (13mm), as an angle greater than this would produce lateral instability, thereby predisposing the patient to inversion sprain of the ankle.'

See a Podiatrist... they may prescribe an insole with a medial wedge.
