Good video! Are you planning to do one on how to take profits when you want to? I.e, Taking it all at once compared to scaling out? I struggle with exit strategies. Also lol, Salesforce do CRM, they're actually a pretty big employer in Ireland!

Hey Ed - Exit strategies could be a good topic to cover! From a personal standpoint however, I generally just do it on a case by case basis. Most of the stocks I've ever sold have been stocks I simply don't want to hold at all anymore, so I generally just make the decision to sell, and sell the full position. There's an argument as to whether that's the right play or not, but for me, if I'm selling - it's usually for a reason, and I have no interest in slowly selling out or timing the market. Of course, there's always times you sell and then that stock jumps in price (always annoying) but the fact remains that you still wanted to sell it in the first place, so you shouldn't dwell on it too much. That being said, for a stock that I do like (and perhaps I just want to trim it slightly, or take some profits to reallocate) I'd generally sell in tranches i.e basically dollar cost averaging, but in reverse! Might be over a couple of weeks, or a couple of months. Cheers for watching - Ste

Really enjoyed this video. I recently sold my AT&T stocks as the company is planning to split in 2022 and reduce the dividend. I could have held but preferred to use the capital to invest in other companies.

Nice one, Kieran - Definitely a wise move reevaluating your investments to make sure they still make sense to you personally. AT&T also quite a monster in terms of size (200+ bil) - so a potential opportunity to reallocate to a slightly smaller company with bigger growth potential 🤷♂️

Hey guys quick question, when you close a position do you calculate the CGT and take out the amount of equity from your investment account to put aside for tax straight away? Or do you reinvest the profits until a later date.
@TheLearningsReport

Hey Andreas, great question. For most, it generally depends on the time of the year, level of savings, expected income before tax season, etc. Based on your own personal circumstances, you'll likely be able to calculate pretty quickly whether you need to set aside the funds immediately for tax, or whether you know comfortably that once tax season comes around - you'll have the liquid funds available in your bank account to cover whats due. If it's early in the year, you might decide to reinvest it all, but if it's closer to December, you might want to set the funds aside. There's also a lot to be said about "out of sight, out of mind"! If you have all your profits sitting in your investment account, you might be tempted to reinvest it all (which is fine) but again, you'd want to be sure that you have a backup plan to cover your tax bill if things went sour with that investment! Sometimes its better to just to withdraw the 33%, put it in a savings account (or wherever is easiest) and know it's there when you need it 👍

Great channel guys! Something that I'm trying to figure out and I imagine can be beneficial to others: How to better use the child benefit, and any other money they accrue, by investing it in the kids name (degiro apparently has minor accounts) and how all that is cover by taxes. Hopefully that can give them a quick start into investing. So far I think the transfer is covered by the gift taxes but not really sure how it works towards CGT allowance and income (dividends). Keep the good work!

Hey BigFredi (great name btw), and a great question. In short, we don't know unfortunately! I have a niece who I also wanted to put some money into investments for, but it was very tricky to figure out how (but perhaps it's a little easier when its your child?). I've also read about the Degiro minor account, but only through forums/reddit/etc. and haven't spoken to Degiro directly about it. I'd be curious to hear if you make any progress on that! I would have had a pretty similar thought process as yourself, but I wonder if there's any sort of work around where you can put the shares directly in their name in trust, as opposed to yours as a means to avoid the gift tax? If this wasn't feasible, I would guess (just based on the current regulations) that the standard CGT rules would apply as per normal up until the point you gift the shares. Although, between deemed disposal (if ETFs), income tax on dividends, 33% cgt, 33% gift tax...it does sounds very annoying! Something we'll need to look into more ourselves! Keep in touch if you find more info yourself, would love to hear. Cheers - Ste
