We should bring patriarchy back into the place it belongs!

Funny thing is while society argues over what is or isn't biblical, the Amish (not menonnites) are living out what has always been biblical better than most. The men greet and talk while the women usually remain silent most of the time unless it is warranted for her to speak. They plan their circumstances as much as possible so as to avoid situations that would risk hampering the roles of women. Its called maintaining order. Many Amish look at regular society families as failures. Why? Because they don't live a life that reflects their so-called relationship with God. They try so hard to act the part while being in constant battle with society. You can't grow a beautiful tall fruitful tree if its planted in thorns and weeds. You have to cultivate a spot. This means to create enough distance from society and its ways to allow enough influence from God and parents. The majority of all appear to fail miserably in this regard.

Wow! Have you been around the Amish? It is a very cultish dysfunctional group. There are missionaries that target them to help people get out and successfully live on the outside. Many of the women and girls are not treated well. Sex abuse is not uncommon.

As a woman, all I want is to be able to live life as I see fit and have the same rights as everyone else. How is that masculine?

Whoa - at about minute 2 the speaker misquotes scripture, claiming that gifts flow from God to earthly fathers. The scripture from James 1: "16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created." There is no doubt a faithful husband and father is a gift, but this scripture does not say that man is an intermediary between wife and God. In fact, if a man disrespects his wife and does not treat her as co-heir of life, his prayers may be hindered (1 Peter 3:7). She, like her husband, is granted the right to be called a child of God (really "son" able to inherit) (Galatians 4:5). That does not sound like traditional patriarchy to me.

You make a really good point. I think the way the guy in the video said it is articulating something that’s true in scripture: God does tend to give blessing through fathers and male leaders as a general pattern, but what you said is simultaneously true. I would say if somebody denies either point made they don’t have the whole picture. What are your thoughts?

Patriarchy is not Biblical as God places Husband and wife one flesh unity. They work together. A Christian wife submits to her husband as unto the Lord. Proverbs 31, does not describe Patriarchy but Love. Patriarchy drives a wedge between husband and wife and makes the wife his daughter. Yes, the husband makes the final decision. Isn’t Mrs. Merkle teaching men right now? Which I thought you were opposed to? Patriarchy means all women submit to all men.

She’s not. She’s teaching to women.

She clarified, she doesn't care if a man reads her book but that is different than her standing at a pulpit and preaching.

It sounds like you have conflated your personal understanding of cultural patriarchy to what biblical patriarchy is.

@@Theprincessinyellow Hello, I wasn’t as clear as I should have been, there is no biblical Patriarchy. Yes, husband is the head of the house, but Husband and wife are one flesh and are a team, based on love.I heard Mrs. Merkle and her father say the other day on Canon press If we’re going to take over the World we should start in the Home. That is not biblical Either. Doug Wilson’s sex robot book, definitely not biblical.

@@theresaread72 Okay here goes. God created marriage and sex pre-fall. He made woman in marriage to do things that man cannot do ("it is not good for man to be alone"). Thus men were created to do different things than women. Patriarchy is defined as "a system of society or government in which the father or eldest male is head of the family and descent is traced through the male line." You said that the man is the head of the house biblically. so thus patriarchy is biblical. Marriage is meant to model Christ and the Church as well as being a picture of the unity between the members of the Trinity. each member has completely different roles and completely different actions that they perform but are all God. If the Holy Spirit died on the cross for our sins, it would be meaningless it cannot do that by nature and that role is filled by God the Son. It is the same with marriage. the husband and wife are completely different in their roles and completely different in the actions they perform but are still one. It would be awful if the husband and the wife had the same role. It would leave horrible weak spots within a marriage. The patriarchy is obviously biblical from your own admission. you can define things that are not biblical about the culture around patriarchy but you cannot make such a sweeping judgement.
