I like the shift from whack a rebel to more groundswell support for a cause that unites groups of pops. The rebels of EU4 were all very disjointed and had single interest issues and were as you say just annoying, they didn't actually add anything to the game in terms of hindrance or roleplay.

nationalist is just a good term for seperatist and rebels of all types that have some grievance based on cultural, historic or legitimacy, all of that can be dumped under the nationalist label without problems

My concern, is that if the nation you just took land off of joins the rebellion, what's stopping you from just burning them to the ground a second time and making your follow up war on them even easier? You've already beaten them once, what stops you just forcing rebels to fire just to cripple them a second time and make it trivial to conquer them?

Maybe there should be a modifier "defeated host nation" that decreases the rebels will to rebel

As far as rebellion chance, I'd like something similar to EU4 colonies where it will always progress somewhat, with a date where it will definitely finish by then, but it will likely finish sooner, and might even finish very quickly.

Just a side note for religion rebellions, I think that the conversion part of a thing should only be allowed for newly formed heresies from one religion. Like Lutherans in 16th and 17th century would do...but let say Catholic state conquer Orthodox land (the split between the two happened in distant 11th century) it would only make sense for Orthodox to become independent in that scenario. And personally, i hate the fact that in EU4 I can see the exact date, position and army size of the rebellion. Some things should not be 100% transparent. For that mechanic, you can with ease add counter espionage where you allocate resources for spies to work inside of your country to know such things.

Btw, this videos are better then 90% league vids, maybe the ones where you focus mainly on mechanics on that game.

Reviews like this one are always nice. Since you can give a more in-depth explanation, thanks to your own experiences and knowledge. Especially like when you go real deep and explain the interacting systems and the reason behind those mechanics.

Maybe they should call ‘nationalism’ something like ‘ethnic tensions.’

I just really love Hash talking about history. You explain things in a way thats interesting, easy to understand and funny. Also comparing/evaluating game mechanics based on historical reality makes for good content, at least for me. Love these kind of videos. Just like he the last one about the EU5 map.

I'm a little sceptical about this addition. I didn't like it how they handled it in EU4, or Vic2 etc. And i do think that this a step in the right direction, and a little of my skepticism is from the lack of details in this tinto talks. Can a nation in truce still join the war? If so what are the penalties? I'm all for big revolts that actually threaten you, and cant just be squashed, but i dont want to be dragged into a second war everytime i conquer a territory. It would be cool if the mother country could send more substantial support, maybe even micro the units and so forth, but direct involvement should be either costly, or require the truce to be expired, and it should count as a defensive war for the country fighting the rebels. I think it's cool that the motherland can join, it offers up alot of new avenues, but it should come at a risk/cost. I do also think revolts should be able to be negotiated with, give them special rights, promise to build infrastructure or something, less interference, religious exemptions etc. I dislike the idea of an always total war, same should go with civil wars, i don't think anyone is looking forward in the late game to occupy a pacific island that the pretender got when the civil war started. There should also be "umbrella" revolts, that may combine if they have similar interests and are angry enough, say orthodox georgians and coptic (?) armenians, with less such cooperation depending on distance and overlapping cores/interests, Maybe this is difficult to model, but unified revolts that may break apart have been a common occurence throughout history. Either way, just making the revolts a serious risk, with more nuanced resolutions that doesnt mean military force would be amazing imo
