Welcome to our channel.
In the previous episodes, I showed that we bought a motorhome to replace our trailer to move to another province and travel across Canada for a months.
This is the fourth episode of our 1989 Ford Vanguard repair series. We have already shown the process of dismantling and repairing the right wall of the motorhome, after that we were able to install an awning and working under the hot sun no longer seemed such a bad idea.
The back wall was badly damaged and during disassembly we could not fully understand how the wood framing was arranged.
We just started doing everything from top to bottom. There was at least one landmark in the form of a roof. To do this, we removed the top layer of aluminum and re-sealed it under the aluminum sheet on our roof.
The wall was restored gradually, the frame was placed along the windows and along the plates, which should be on the bends of the wall. First, the inner plywood was fixed, then wood framing, insulation, outer plywood and the last fiberglass. It was this chronology of actions that made it possible to do everything quickly and firmly, we do not recommend initially gluing fiberglass to the outer layer of the plywood.
We wired the rear lights and the rear view camera, it is important to hide the wires deep into the wall so as not to damage when fixing the outer layer of the wall. They also reinforced with wooden blocks the attachment points of the plate and the stairs.
In order to get to the bottom edge and fix it well, it was necessary to partially disassemble the left side as well. The bottom of the left wall also required repair, but this is already in the next series.
Once again I want to repeat that the frame of the bottom of the rear wall of the motorhome was completely invented by me on my own. I set myself the task of making it strong and isolating the residential part from dust and environmental influences. Wood that could theoretically be exposed to water was pre-treated with a protective impregnation.
Having pressed the fiberglass wherever possible, they left it to grow stronger.
Stay tuned as we continue this restoration journey, uncovering the motorhome's hidden stories and honoring its legacy.
