Dodge neon rebuilding in 10 min. Video. Also me and my son have KZitem kids channel name “Adventure Pack With Bogdan “. We make entertaining and educational videos for kids.
Same here. 2002 Neon and everyone's telling me that it's crap. I have noisy lifters, the car vibrates a lot at idle, lacks power and gives me crappy mileage, but as you I've worked so much in it and know every bit of the car. I love it and might keep it until it dies... 103,000 miles on it and it won't stop.

its all about passion man....Anyone could just buy a new car to avoid any problems. But when hard work goes into something like this, and its your hard work, its a different feeling. Everyone tells me to sell my 02 neon, etc....but i worked on it so much, and know every bit of that car, its hard to let go for a small fortune because in my eyes the car is worth much more than in someone elses eyes because of all the time i put in the car. its been 2 years... no problems. 170,000 miles. runs new.

I have a plymouth neon with 170,000 thousand miles . I need to change the timing belt . When my transmision act up when it shifting i put a can of sea foam transmison additive and cleared the problem! This is a good motor , keep both oil change and it will last a long time !

Beautiful engine. Careful installing crankshaft timing gear and balancer pulley. Never ever use hammer of any kind on those for installation. Use the special install tools as shown in the manual to push them on without damaging the thrust bearing. Oh, and when inserting the piston and rod assembly use the protectors on the bolts to avoid scratching the crankshaft. Like the music.

I agree, buying a new car is easy to fix problems...I own a 2012 scion tc, yes its fairly new but I ripped apart the engine and pieced it back together at least 4 time now...I modified it a little about to go boost so I agree with what you saying...mad respect for rebuilding a car man...hate people who talk shit about other rides when they own the newest model of anything.

Well done... I love the body and feel of the 90's models, I had a 95 and an 02 and did this to both. I can say the 95 with the dohc swap and acr transmission was fun to drive. I also manged to do coil over plugs after a while on it. These cars will run forever, get great gas mileage and they're extremely easy to work on. Nice job on the rebuild.

A little trick for getting the rockers on without binding is to put the engine a couple cam gear teeth before top dead center and the cam is mostly flat in a stabil position with minimum cam lobe pressure. Then tighten the shafts down in increments so that in no point in time does the rocker shaft bend at an extreme angle, I usually go over the rocker bolts 3x and on the 3rd time I torque them, any other way is almost a certain head strip.

Btw mine it's eating a 1 litre oil at 1000 km and I have to replace catalytic also. But I wil not change this car , 2.0 engine and on Autobahn she's eating 5,5 litres ( with automatic transmission) , and we talk about 20 years old car ! WOW

Waste of effort? Your comment makes no sense. Besides he really is being cost effective by doing this. If you can keep any older car going, why not. A cleaner, rebuilt car runs better. This project is worth it to him. What I don't understand are these fast n' furious kids who do this kind of work to any car just to trash it by beating the crap out of the engine anf transmission.

+Jesse Koskenin That's because you've got a 2nd gen. The ECC DOHC motor used in 1st gen neons is fantastic. Now, they had SOHC engines for the 1st gen, but DOHC was an option, for the 2nd gen cars, it wasn't. come to think of it, if i'm remembering right, the SOHC offering for the 2nd gen neons was different as well.... for the 2.0L, you still could have the A588, but the lower displacement engine was different than the one they used on the 1st gens....
@numberyellow
8 жыл бұрын
***** There were only 2 generations of Neon, the engines were not mostly identical, unless, of course, you're referring to them both being variants of the base Chrysler "Powertech" 2.0L motor. yes, they're variants, but the ECC, and A588 are actually substantially different. There was no DOHC option for 2nd gen.
@numberyellow
8 жыл бұрын
***** 1995-1999 was 1st gen, and 1999-2005 was 2nd gen. There was a facelift to the Neon in 2003, but new bumpers and panels don't make it a new generation. Under the facelift, it was still the same car. '99 1st gens got the ECC and A588 motors, 2nd gens NEVER got the ECC motor, as it was not an option. And piston config, and head were not the only differences. as you pointed out yourself, the ECC produced more horsepowers than the A588. Yes, displacement was the same, as they were both based on the Chrysler "Powertech" 2.0L motor. so, by default, they're going to have a displacement of 2.0L. like it or not, they are significantly different motors...if they weren't, then what would be the point? lemme ask, do you HAVE a neon?
@numberyellow
8 жыл бұрын
***** I can't speak to specific changes, as i own a 1st gen. However, according to Chrysler, there were only 2 generations of neon. I'm not going to say that there were no holdover motors, but it is a fact that the DOHC 2.0L motors used in the 1st gens were NOT an option on 2nd gen neons. The default motor for that generation was the SOHC A588 motor from the 1st gen, with the (still SOHC) "magnum" taking the place of the DOHC ECC, as the "more power" option. Maybe they used up existing motor stock in the very first 2nd gen cars to come off the line, instead of fitting them with the motor they were supposed to have...wouldn't be the first time they did something like that. There was a shortage of SOHC motors during 1st gen, so some neons that were supposed to only have SOHC, got an "upgrade" for free...neon production was kind of a mess, early on.. So perhaps you did get one that came off the line with an overstock motor, or maybe yours is a used one, that someone did a motor swap, i have no idea. And yes, while parts were interchangeable, the way in which a SOHC motor, and DOHC motor operate, mechanically, isn't exactly the same. I'm not a pro, but that doesn't mean i don't know anything.
@Joshcheyka

You said, "I doubt it, but then again my car is stock..." Then implied that putting a turbo on your car would make you a better driver. Really HP doesn't make you a better driver but from what you posted you think it does. BTW I don't think you could afford the maintenance on a WRX STI if you are having problems as for the S2000, a Miata might fit your budget. I owned a 2002 WRX, paid $5k for it and ended up spending another $3k in 1 year. I had a V8 Miata, and I always smacked Hondas.

LOL. What is so crappy about a Neon engine? I think that I rather have a SRT-4 than a Turboed Civic, mainly because SRT-4s are much better to drive. Honda engines MIGHT last longer IF you don't modify them. I race my R/T every weekend and I don't have a problem with reliability, I just perform regular maintenance like oil changes and tune ups.
