The bald barber statement is the wrong mindset to have mate. A barber with a good haircut doesn't mean he is good at cutting hair. It means the barber that cut his hair is good.
@KrisVic91

Yeah it's pretty stupid tbh. Barbers don't cut their own hair haha. It's like a tattoo artist who doesn't have tattoos or a woman who is a make up artist but doesn't like wearing make up herself. The skill is applied to others. though I've saw the bald barber thing before, makes no sense to me why it would matter the barbers hairstyle is haha.

I remember when I found out I was gonna loose my hair, I went to have an haircut when I was maybe 14 and the Barber was a cool bald dude. He told me right away in front of my mom "You're gonna be bald when you grow up." I was very surprised as it had never occured to me that I had thin hair or anything was wrong with my hair. He also told me straight "Listen you don't want to wear a wig or try to cover up with shit like that. You're gonna shave your head like me and it's gonna be fine." Everybody around me tried to tell me he did not know what he was saying, that I wasn't gonna loose my hair. But I knew he was right, he was bald too and he knew his stuff, so I just knew it was coming to me, I tried to imagine what I could look like when I would be older with a shaved head. After that I grew my hair long for a few years but I knew it wasn't gonna last so when I turned 20 I cut them short, then when I was maybe 22 I started trimming them cause they would really becoming thin and it was starting to look awkward. Now I'm shaving regularly. The best decision was to just go with it and I think a shaved head always look good and bad ass so it's actually a plus I think.
@jamesd.6979

That's always the right way to go.. I don't know how I started watching these videos but it's fascinating to me how many guys struggle with coming to terms with the fact that they're balding. All of these guys look so much better bald. It's all about owning it and keeping that confidence up. Like you said, a clean shaved head looks good / bad ass. Just roll with it!
@bmxcommentator
3 жыл бұрын
I had the opposite scenario. I had thick black hair, and I remember the hair dresser telling me when I was about 11 'You'll have great hair when you're 60' so starting to thin in my early 20's was mortifying. Luckily I eventually accepted the situation and it got to the point where it all had to go. Now, I'm fully bald and couldn't be happier. As others say, you just have to own it. Also, it helps if you start to raise your games in other ways. I've started to dress better and people notice that more than your baldness. If you give people other ways to notice you, being bald doesn't even enter the equation.
@kumadbd
3 жыл бұрын
@@bmxcommentator yeah I think it is best to accept it and usually it means shaving your head. Nothing worse than having hair except on top of your head. It is much better to be bald and looking badass than having a crap hairdo. My wife even told me people thought I was older just because I did not shave regularly and let it grow too much.

This sounds crazy but my middle school biology teacher told me I would go bald when I grew up. We were looking at our hair follicles in microscopes, she came over and looked at mine. The best thing I've ever done to prevent my depression and suicidal thoughts has been treating my hair loss. I found a new dermatologist and am using new prescriptions. I've tried therapists and psychologists, and they don't take hair loss seriously or consider it to be a cause for depression. I wasted money that I could have spent on medications, hair transplants or a hair system if my other treatment options don't work. The point is to do something about hair loss instead of "accept it," which is what a lot of doctors say. Even shaving your head is better than doing nothing about it. My therapist didn't acknowledge any of the concerns I have about my hair loss or offer advice.

The anti-anxiety medications have been somewhat helpful, but the most important drugs for me are dutasteride and oral minoxidil. The only reason I'm not suicidal is because I've been able to keep my hair with off-label drugs. The people at the cosmetic dermatology clinic have done more to improve my mental health than any therapist.

I shaved my head right down to the skin with a razor two days ago. My girlfriend was supportive and just said "your hair doesn't matter, you good with or without". My family wasn't supportive, they just said "noooo why did you do that?". I'll be honest I didnt like it when I shaved it, I was looking closely in the mirror and analysing my imperfections. Whenever I walked past a mirror I would be shocked when I see my reflection because I look different. After a few days I got used to it and I now kind of like my look now. I have never met the guy in the interview before, so the first time I see his face, he is a bald guy, and k think it suits him well. Whenever you meet new people or walk past someone on the street they won't judge you, they never met you with hair, so to them the bald look is just your look, nothing more nothing less. When you walk past a bald guy on the street do you think "omg it's a bald guy!"? No of course not. My hair does have some importance, but it's far down on the list. The things I care about are: having a decent career, learning new skills, hobbies, my family, building my life, etc . My hair will be on that list, but it will be far down, certainly not in the top 10 things I give a F about

Started losing my hair at 17-18 yrs old....after trying everything from Toupees to regrowth formulas...I decided on hair transplants. One of the worst decisions of my life( Being a late 80's procedure.. my hairline was left- ridged, cobblestoned and pitted). Now at 51, the only hair remaining on the top and front of my head is the thin stringy transplanted hair. I have been self conscious and insecure about my hair and head for over 30 years...A few months ago, I decided to do something. I shaved my head and got smp...At first it was so empowering to get rid of my hair...and the smp practitioner was fantastic. Unfortunately, any overhead lighting revealed my raise/ridged hairline, making it look like I had a beanie on....After feeling more self conscious than ever, I decided to have the smp laser removed, and now I am in the process of growing my hair back, to hide my ridged hairline. I really wish I could just be comfortable with being bald, but I cant stop obsessing about the horrible elevated hairline running around the top of my head. Thanks for this video. I just finished my third session of SMP and it's been a wild ride. I am prone to anxiety and kinda freaked out about it. That said, it's probably fine. I went somewhere that does subtle SMP and asked for subtle SMP and I'm brown so it should look OK. The comments here that show that SMP can look OK if done well make me feel better. Also, there is nothing wrong with being bald, I was a happy Norwood 7 for years. I think of this as something to frame my face and don't need it to make it look like I'm not bald, just frame my face and soften my horseshoe. I have, in my current state of panic, done some research on removal options and know that they are there. But having only just got it done, it will fade by about 50% in the next few weeks and probably be what I'm looking for. And what about the touch ups and things like that? Probably not my jam. I plan on letting it fade over time and might have to get laser SMP removal in five years if it looks whack. That's where I wonder whether I made a mistake. The good thing is that, a week after my second session, I sat right next to my own mother and she couldn't see a difference. And I hadn't buzzed my hair fully so there was about three days growth. No one has noticed but when I tell people they figure out what it was that they couldn't put their finger on. Do I recommend it? I can only really answer that incrementally as time goes on. It's very confronting to have your head messed with. At this point, the feeling is regret. But all the feedback is positive and it will soften, which makes me think I'll feel better in a few days and much better in a few weeks. What about later as it fades? So many people say it just fades away and, given my dark skin, if only traces are left in 5-10 years, that's fine by me, so long it doesn't become a soft helmet on my head. Does anyone here have experience with what I'm describing? And has anyone let their SMP fade out?

@Sound Logic What's not true? People's hair does not generally grow across in a straight line like that. My advice... SMP it’s ALL about finding the right practitioner with the right eye. Speak to your potential practitioner and make you agree on what you think looks natural. Look through photos of other people’s SMP if you have to. Less is almost always more. You can always add but you can’t take away - this applies to both shade and shape. Trigger happy “SMP specialists” DO NOT help the reputation of the industry and it is a real shame. Don’t be peer pressured into unnatural looking lines and curves. When creating your hairline if it feels off, say! SMP should the be the aesthetic application of hair follicles that were there PRIOR to hair loss, don’t let them do anything outside of this if you want it to look natural. I’ve seen far too many fantasy hairlines on people who have SMP and it’s an instant give away. If the eyes are immediately drawn to the hairline, it’s failed. Go for subtle and you can’t go wrong. When done right SMP is incredibly effective and can look amazing.

I like the idea of SMP but there are too many variables - whether you have a professional job, if the line looks natural, if it even suits you? Sometimes we think it'll look good on us and then seeing a full hairline we might change our minds. I've looked into it, it's quite expensive $3000 generally for full bald people with the Dr Phil skater ring hair around the sides. And it needs to be done every 3 or 4 years. Plus you need to put sunscreen on it every day to make sure it doesn't fade, which is fine but again something people need to be aware of. Sometimes being bald is better than trying to fix it.

@31:01 this is a very good point. It is all very much cultural. And culture changes and can be manipulated. The Fashion industry does it all the time through advertising. The Ancient Egyptians for example, used to shave and remove all their hair. It was a sign of high social status. At the moment we are very much a youth oriented culture. And that is mainly because of consumer advertising starting in the 50's. And decades of it. But it wasnt always like this, therefor it will not always be like this.

I can attest to this. I have a darker complexion though (not really dark, but I'm not very light either) so I elected to go a bit darker with the procedure because I hated how I couldn't make out my new hairline (after session 1) when I went into poorer lit places. Understanding the impression size and softness to the hairline creates a finished result that is literally undetectable. He even brought in a past client that he worked on.
