(Speaking in terms that non-Shadow Systems owners can understand)... I took the DR920 (G-17 non-comped version) and XR920p (G-45 comped version) to the range last week, and the XR920p outshot the DR920 in recoil reduction. When I got home, I removed the RMR from the DR920 and installed it on the XR920p. The DR920 has been placed on the 'soon to be sold' side of the safe.

I have the XR920P for five weeks now. Compared to my equally built-out G45 with Ramjet/AfterBurner/Compressor the P is much better, at least for me. Using the included backstrap I now have a neutral angle which I prefer. After one issue with the P that SS took care (3 weeks downtime) I now have at least 2500 rounds at nightly COF's. I put at least $2000 into the G45, mostly due to aftermarket triggers and other upgrades that lost their tolerances and failed after 30K of use, the P needs nothing, other then the 507 ACSS. I have a TLR-1 HL but not using it yet. One thing that I started experimenting with yesterday is that thumb ledge. While working at the static line I found the right technique that works for me to keep it from rising. I went from 2 or 3 out on a bill drill to 0 out, which for me, at my senior age and only been shooting for couple years now, was amazing. 124 TMC or TMJ's range and tested with 147/150 HST for EDC. Wish a bit larger ledge but I just need to train some more. I love this gun.
@TacticalConsiderations

making the glock version is far more expensive but thye are so damn close in performance. So save a grand or build a G45.
@toddtzm
4 ай бұрын
@@TacticalConsiderations True but there are other factors to consider that skew performance. The Glock grip is fatter, which for those like myself with shorter index finger your right hand has to be a perfect draw. I sometimes pull left if my finger doesn't have good placement. Shadow is thinner and easier to get on it, so I can pull straight back. Johnny Glock solves some of that with the shoe being set back. But an expensive upgrade, though well worth it! Also, the trigger guard is larger on the XR so easier to use gloves in a cold climate. Also, easier to slide right off the frame and be on it. After 2500 rounds I clock in at 3.6.4 in trigger weight. Hopefully it holds there as the round count increases. Don't want what happened to my Glock Performance Trigger after 5000+ rounds, going from its original 4.2.4 to 3.1.1. Too light for me for EDC. Wasn't just a fluke. Happened to my shooting partner as well. Johnny comes in at 3.10.8, which is fine. All in all I tend to agree with your excellent unbiased review! The viewers can decide what is best for them.

I’ve heard that over the next 2 years, shadow systems is going to be doing continuous upgrades to the trigger until it’s basically a timmney clone. They’re not gonna be advertising it or changing the price, just doing a full trigger upgrade overtime and trying not to get caught in patent battles.

I stumbled across an mr920p 2 weeks ago shipped to my ffl for 870. Wasn't even in the market but snatched it up as soon as I could get through the checkout process. Would have preferred the extended grip and 17 round mags of the XR but the 17s don't look bad in the MR and it's a bit easier to carry if I want. Amen on that Turkish ammo shit. Had a squib that I luckily caught before I wrecked my 229 pro baby. Guess I gotta spring for the more tried and true American loads. Squibs suck! I had one shooting my wife’s Tomcat a few months ago testing some Xtreme Defender ammo. It definitely felt off, but what saved the day for me, literally, was that it lodged close enough to the chamber that the next round did not and would not allow the next round to fully chamber. It was wedged in there so tight that I was unable to pound it out. Took it to my FFL and they managed to whack off that little load in a matter of seconds, bringing that little 2 incher instant relief, yet the wife remains none too impressed.

I like a clean pistol and I feel we are getting way too overboard with all the ambi stuff. Maybe because I am a old fart but I just don't like all the clutter. Besides I never use the slide stop as a slide release and I feel it should not be used as a slide release on any firearm. I have seen too many shooters fumble and miss the slide stop in a stressful situation. Grasp the slide and pull to the rear as God intended. I am a gunsmith and have been shooting for over 50 years and maybe I am just too old to change. Sorry for the rant and keep up the good work. I really like your reviews!

Is there a big difference between the XR and Mr920p shooting recoil?

Grip size helps with my hand size and controlling recoil. But the difference will be minimal

@ssquiggss

To comment on the ammo lately... I've had massive problems with almost all the 9mm I've bought from blazer, pmc, aac, etc in the last month. I had a blazer 115gr light primer strike in my g19 like 6 times, put it in 5 different buddies guns at the range to check and see if it was my gun or the ammo, did the same shit... PMC I've had like 15 bullets set back from factory, light primer strikes, etc, aac has been all fucking dented and such? The only success I've had is buying reman from HSL in Utah.. and normally I'm not a reman guy at all but it hasn't given me any problems.. yet.

When clearing the squib round; I noticed you cleared pushing from front to rear on the barrel. My question is does it matter in which direction to push to clear?
@TacticalConsiderations

Well that depends on location and what you have to clear it. It was so close to the feed ramp end I figured it was easier there than going through tit.

well green is more visible across the light spectrum and is easier on the eyes by there is nothing wrong with red just different.

I always hear all this hype about JG triggers.. I put a Johnny Glocks trigger in my SS and it's dog water. I reinstalled the factory SS trigger. My JG trigger is a huge disappointment especially for the price. It has ALOT of mushy creep and is much heavier than any other glock trigger I have. I don't know if I'm just a 1 off or what, but I got the complete kit from them polished and all and is SUCKS. Its so bad I sometimes would question if the trigger reset from the previous shot for how hard I was having to pull it to shoot the next shot.
