I'm fairly new to mind/body healing and really appreciate your clear, well thought out explanations delivered on your videos. They have been extremely helpful! I stumbled on to your videos quite by accident. I have, over the past two weeks, binge watched many of them. Talk about aha moments! There have been many! These videos have aided me in understanding my CFS, processing the nuances involved in recovery and beginning the steps necessary for full recovery. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity in sharing your vast knowledge with those of us out there who are struggling with chronic conditions and don't know what to to!

I have been applying the self talk a lot and it has been tremendously helpful. What I notice is when I get a flare , its from anxiety so I mentally say no Im not agreeing with it. I also notice when I build confidence in myself it is very helpful . The symptoms are getting less and less. Thanks for all this positive self talk advice . “Going on the offense “ ive been calling it

Could you please do one on insomnia, and applying these principles it to it, i have it badly i know it is tms, it is hard because it is not physical ,i go days with out sleeping like 4-5 days at a time and my brain just wont go to sleep, and also brain fog as well, as it is hard to take charge when your brain is in a fog and cannot think clearly.

Hi Jim - great video - thank you! One thing that I wanted to ask on your somatic tracking video - you say that if you are doing it correctly you will notice a small shift. If that doesn’t happen is it still ok to do as I thought from Alan Gordon that the idea is to practice it to reduce fear, without expecting any change as that just puts more pressure on one.
@thepainpt
2 жыл бұрын
Yes good question- it is aimed at reducing fear you are correct. As the fear and worry drop off the symptom typically change it’s shape or form. For some people it will stay there in the same location. Either way don’t worry about it. :)

Very helpful Jim. Thank you. Do you have any top tips for how to stop your brain remembering? For the past 10+ years I’ve had chronic migraine and my brain just seems to be in the pattern now of ‘remembering’ a migraine after two weeks. I.e. I can sometimes go two weeks without a migraine but then it’s like my brain suddenly flips into thinking I should be having one. Often I wake up with one in the morning so I can control it during the day but at night the subconscious just seems to override my cortex. Any top tips on how to stop my brain remembering cycles of chronic migraine pain?

same thing. On then off.

Yeah you have to keep breaking the cycle or pattern down as much as you can each time. Sounds like you have been doing a decent job you need to keep chipping away at it refuting it not giving into it believing you’re OK there’s nothing wrong. Gradually with time and practice and going through enough cycles of it it should start the back down more.

Still find it hard to do. Both!! In moderate pain, I can. But in severe and long staying pain, I have trouble both letting it be, and selftalk. I just want the day to pass. Which I know it will!! For shure!

Thanks Jim! Very helpful. I had two other things in my notes that you said in our call that upon reflection also seem a bit contradictory in terms of self talk: “Hey I’m in control now, back down” vs. “do whatever you want, symptoms, Throw it at me.” How do I reconcile these?
@thepainpt
2 жыл бұрын
Yes good question. The first thing you want to do is tell her to stop go away knock it off settle down relax because there’s no danger. If the limbic brain doesn’t listen to you you don’t back down. That’s when you go into facing mode you can tell it to do whatever the heck it wants you’re not going to be controlled by it. Both messages show you’re in control. A lot of people throw in the towel when the symptoms dont back down it can take time for that to happen with your cortex getting stronger so in the meantime you’re just handling what it throws at you from the same mental space that it’s fine
@thepainpt
2 жыл бұрын
Yes you need to believe that you’re not in danger there’s nothing wrong. Which there isn’t with mind body stuff! and then convey that to the limbic brain holding the line and your message against its message

i would be very interested to learn more detail on this self talk topic , as i feel this may be the key.. main problem is getting your brain to actually believe you, or to actually take instruction at all ?

Thank you Jim. Do you recommend making a plan and a schedule to set aside time to apply these techniques to overcoming fears of certain activities. Like a fitness trainer would do. But I would schedule a few minutes each day to typing, Bending, carrying, reaching etc... And do a little more each day. Because it is easy to structure my day to find ways to avoid these things. So a schedule to make progress and overcoming the anxiety. Do you recommend that?

Since I've been doing this the pain and anxiety are louder to the point where it literally feels intolerable. I need some hope here because I'm on the fence of feeling I'm doomed and thinking it's some kind of push back from my brain as a last hold out before the fire dies down. Thoughts?
@teatimetraveller

I've found personally that my symptoms can flare up in response to psycho emotional realizations. Almost like the mind is pushing back at my efforts. My recovery has definitely not been linear and I think its quite normal to have flare ups which can be tough to go through but necessary. I'm sure you're not doomed.

I’m doing this work and my physical symptoms and anxiety have been much louder too… probably the loudest ever. It’s normal and we have to push through. I even Get those impending doom feelings lately but just have to keep up that self talk as much as possible. You’re so not alone in this💕

I do somatic tracking and other things which you've recommended to help me to remain calm and not react to the pain. On the whole, I've got fairly good at not freaking out at the pain (though as yet I haven't seen a lot of progress in reducing it over the months). However, how important is it to actually verbalise messages to the brain? I do understand what you're saying about 'response', but I find it tedious (!) to have to actually frame messages to my brain. I'm 100% confident that my pain is TMS, is temporary and is unnecessary but do I need to actually tell my brain this when I'm so aware that it's true?
