This video is a demonstration of a mindfulness exercise using the creative process through the use of intention-setting, art making with available materials, and witness (a.k.a. stream of consciousness) writing. See below for an overview of the process.

Process art is the act of creating art and staying focused on the process itself (versus the outcome of the painting or drawing). Creating art focused on intuitive choices of color, shape, and movement keeps me present and attuned to what is happening right now - not ruminating on the past or anxious about the future. It is a simple, accessible way to promote positive mental health, lower anxiety, and ease depression. Besides the self care aspects, it's also a fun way to create with zero pressure to perform. The act of creating is the goal. If it turns out beautiful too, it's the cherry on top.
INTENTION is a statement of what I want, but it is written as if I have already achieved it. "I am calm" instead of "I want to be calm", for example.
WITNESS WRITING is spending 5-10 minutes writing down whatever thoughts are in your mind at that point in time. It is a way to listen to the version of myself that is so often crowded out by the business of everyday life, social media, and Netflix. Non-stop, stream of consciousness writing for a given time period - often only 5-10 minutes.
