Dubai and the wider UAE love setting elaborate world record attempts to affirm their place as a region who can put on a show. A logistical challenge never gets in their way and in Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates on 31st December 2017, fireworks history was made. (and not for the 1st time have elaborate fireworks displays made history in Dubai!)
The world record authorities were also on hand to verify the launch of the 'World’s Largest Firework Shell' and get it listed into the record books.
This previous record, held by Japan since 2014, was a 1, 204 pound shell with a diameter of 48 inches.
The brand new record now set and as seen in the video saw a 2,200 pound shell, with a diameter of 56 inches launched into the sky over Al Marjan island by a 7 metre mortar, weighing 15,000 pounds and buried 4 metres into the sand.
The shell was created by Grucci Fireworks and shipped from America to the UAE where technicians put the finishing touches to the set up for an incredible (and probably VERY EXPENSIVE!!) New Year Fireworks display.
An incredible spectacle with a great return on investment for all involved, or could the money have been better spent elsewhere. Well, whilst the world record authorities cash their hefty cheques, make sure you have a HAPPY NEW YEAR in 2018.. may your year sparkle, just like the fireworks in Dubai did!
