I was looking for a shoebox, I found one, I opened it. I found my Pokemon card collection from when I was in 3rd grade. Not what I was expecting at 12:27 in the morning.

Hey Jarrett, great informative video. I have a lot of 45's at the moment. I don't think the shoebox tip would work for me, but I will definitely look into getting some of those nice stackable 7" boxes you showed in the video. Thanks for sharing.

I actually found fabric closet containers at the Dollar Tree and they are prefect for storing singles vertically . Also, you can buy colored contact paper to cover the shoebox to give it a nice decor.

great idea for those who want to play a few 45's from your bigger collection. i would store my 45's in a drawer system where there easy to look at and their safe and dust free, also you can put leader cards for sorting your collection by artist[various artists] or country[single artist].

Great tip. I actually have a 45 closet I built that fit's most of them. The rest are stored in small crates you can find for about a dollar that work well also. I love your channel and watch it all the time. Take care...

I found that the boxes that printer paper is sold in (reams is the correct term, I believe) will hold a truckload of 45's....and, if you know someone who has a baby, the big boxes of diapers will do just as well. For sleeves, when possible, I tend to use 7' x 8" ziplock baggies with the zip portion trimmed off.

I use photo storage boxes from craft stores. They are affordable at less than $3 each, stronger than most shoe boxes and come in a wide variety of patterns. Plus you can put the lid underneath as demonstrated in this video.

Jarrett, great idea. If you want something more solid with basic carpentry skills these types of shoe box style can be build using pine wood. Also you can build a stacking framing system to slide the boxes in and out.

I have a ton of disco/funk/soul music on singles. In the 70s, the 7inch format was very popular here in Spain, specially for the kind of music that i collect. Actionally i have more singles than lps or maxi.

I've gotten so that I recognize the size of box I need for my 45's. When I go to Costco or Aldi, if I see a perfect box or boxes that will hold 45's I'll snatch it up. If it turns out that it's too big or small, I just recycle the box. The boxes don't cost me anything and they are more than glad to have me get rid of them.

I've just started buying records and I bought a few 45s from the local thrift store. Every one of them was just a loose record. Should I probably invest in some generic paper sleeves to put them in?

You should definitely pick up plastic inner sleeves for 45 singles. I have a video about them on this channel you should check out!

Definitely put them in some sleeves. Even just some paper sleeves if you can't afford something fancy. Also I would recommend wiping them off with a microfiber cloth and lightly spraying them with distilled water to get the dirt and dust off.

Jarrett, FYI - I use a shoebox that size for my singles. I just counted 124 in it, with room for maybe 10-15 more. So, I'd say the maximum you can get in that box is 135 - 140. Your guess of 100 wasn't far off.

I guarantee you're gonna want to smack me when I tell you how I've been storing my 45's for years. Only 'bad' part is they're also sleeveless. But I don't care. Most aren't worth saving anyway. (Those sleeves that have good artwork or some other reason to keep, I keep in shoeboxes or similar size boxes.) I found out years ago that Danish Sugar Cookies tins are a perfect diameter to stack 45's in. They're out of the way, stay dust free, don't warp, and remain moderately cool (just under room temperature) at all times. I've never had any scratch on me when removing or putting them back. Main disadvantage? You have to pull them all out or put them away together as one big stack. The bulged centers are what protect them from damage when handling them. The tins, meanwhile, can be stored vertically or horizontally. Some of the 45's have had paper or plastic circular dividers between them, but most don't. And when I'm searching for a particular 45, I put those I've gone through on the center post of a CD or DVD container. When I'm done searching, I simply turn over the CD/DVD base directly into the open base of my cookie tin in one hand, with little or no clearance between the tin and center post of the CD/DVD container in the other hand. Thus I avoid damaging any of the 45's. I've done storage this way for over 45 years and haven't run into any problems EVER.

Sometimes singles have different mixes on them as well. Radio edits, extended mix, instrumental version, etc. Singles also contain non album tracks. Also singles, LPs, and EPs, may all have different covers. Also consider imports of records. Sometimes these covers will vary as well as different edits, cuts, mixes of songs you like. Then there are the different labels that the same album is pressed on! It's an endless and expensive hobby. Welcome aboard!

Not all 45 RPM records are 7" there are 12" as well called Maxi Singles although most Maxi Singles are 33⅓ RPM just like a regular LP but some are 45 RPM. There are even 10" 45 RPM records the same size as most 78 shellac discs but they are rare.

Thanks captain obvious. When someone uses the term 45 to refer to a record, it's pretty safe to say that they are not talking about a 10 or 12" and likely not looking for a history lesson on what speeds come on what sizes.
