Hi, thanks for the video. I'm a technician at a secondary school and we have quite a few of these vices. There are a few that need repairing and this has been very helpful. A few of the compression springs are damaged though and I'm trying to work out what size to get to replace them.

Hang on to them, or make sure you get a good price if selling..

Ebay sell service kits. The spring, screws etc (without jaws) are around £10-15.

The nut for the screw on mine is not coming out. Yours just appeared to fall out when you removed the screw. Any tips on removing it?

My old record vice will be getting this treatment, why did you coat everything in gt85? To clean it off as a degreaser?

Hello, i'v got a record no1 and i have just made the rooky mistake of knocking the pin that holds the spring too far, i had to snap it to get it out. Would replacing it with a split pin sit well with the vintage record community? Also my bigger pin at the back was in there.

I have one of these but can't get the jaw screws undone. What chemicals do you recommend and what are the threads on this thing if I have to drill out the bolts.

I use penetrating fluid - 'Plus Gas', try a little heat also if you have a blow torch. The screws are 1/4" BSW which you can get from ebay.

TD makes a refreshing change from all the American content on here. I have a very rusty and pretty battered no3 vice. Been thinking about getting it blasted. Using the Dremel do you not risk scoring or taking surfaces away from being flat?

@@kn0bch33s3 Possibly? But at the end of the day it's a vice, not a classic car or precision machine tool.

@@BestUserNameUK Thanks, I was just going to get a no1 for now as I only do light duty filing work at the moment. Just noticed that the long bolt in yours that moves the jaws back and forth, has a much smaller thread than some of the ones I have seen on ebay. Do you know anything about that and what difference it will make? Some have a big chunky square cut thread.
