As someone who treats 225 Ash trees a year, I first took note of a tree's healing process when the Derecho here in the Quad Cities presented me with a branch containing an EAB trail that was being calloused over with new bark. Looked like 1:07. Nice explanation.

in your experience, whats the survival rate and/or the return rate of EAB in ash trees that were attacked, pruned/treated, and have regrown. I work in the Landscape Architecture area around Denver, and notice that 99% ash trees planted are attacked within 2-3 years after planting. if they are pruned in time, i notice that they aren't attacked nearly as much. I've seen one be attacked 8-10 years ago, pruned off in time, and has not been attacked since and has grown about 15 feet.

Wow! Good to know. We are treating our Ash here in Maryland & although it did sustain some damage it is now doing quite well. Well worth the investment in shade & beauty.

We absolutely agree! It's worth preserving those old-growth ash trees for the future!

When is it too late to treat?

We generally recommend injecting trees in spring, around May or June, ideally before adult EAB emergence. In terms of the tree's life cycle, treating before there's 30% canopy loss will ensure the best preservation of the tree's appearance and health.
