First - thanks for making this video! I really appreciate your insight and candor. I am a recent Cornell MBA admit. To be completely honest, I am dead-set on going into investment banking. I noticed in the beginning of the vid you'd said that you hadn't secured an offer from a bank. From your estimate, what percentage of the class seeking out IB didn't get an offer? Tbh, It's very unsettling that someone as polished and knowledgeable as you did not land an IB gig from a place like Cornell

So I’m actually still in the recruiting process, as of now 50% of our class has gotten offer and a couple of us are still working towards them. It’s a tough year and it’s a tough field and I want to make sure that I’m as candid as possible. I had no experience with IB and no prior knowledge of the field before my MBA, I want to make sure that others also have the chance to understand what it’s like. Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks to you for all the info that you convey in this video. keep doing it. Could you please make a video on what kind of skills does B schools are looking for and also what courses or extra curriculum a person should do so that chances of acceptance increases.

Like I’ve said in my previous videos, it’s a holistic approach. It’s mostly focusing on the story to make sure that you’re a good fit for that particular school.

thanks! applying R3 and looking for same pivot. Was on some student webinars and reading employment report saw Cornell also puts almost half(!) the class into consulting and the other half into banking. Wow, that's legit one of the best outcomes from any other T20 assuming one's interested in either of those two. Only thing I'm curious about is how has current economic environment affected banking recruiting if at all for you and have any people struck out and if so, what are their fallback options... consulting recruiting is also sparse now, no? Thanks again

I would definitely say that it’s been a rough year for both consulting and banking. Both of these fields are incredibly difficult to break into. There are less offers to go around and there are less banks willing to take people after interning full time.

Great video! Question - do the part-time MBA students have access to the IB recruiting and finance club or is this only available to FT students? Thanks
@athena2597

So, Cornell doesn’t have a part time MBA program. It’s only for FT MBA students.

I forgot to ask, is it possible for someone to get multiple super-days/final interviews. For example: Final interview with Morgan Stanley, and another one with Citi.
@athena2597

Yes of course! In my class there were lots of people with multiple superdays.

Hi, can you give me the names of the diversity symposiums available?
@athena2597

Yeah, so every bank has a diversity symposium, for people who are Hispanic, Black and for Women. It just normally just a diversity inclusion summit. Each bank has a different name for it.

As an international, did you see a major difference in the recruiting process or did you feel limited with recruiting trying to find a sponsor?
@athena2597
7 ай бұрын
Of course! There were less banks I could recruit for and banks are less willing to take candidates that are international over someone who has a US Citizenship.

@@athena2597knowing that, do you still find it worth it as a Canadian? Knowing that you’d have trouble getting a spot because of sponsorship, does that dilute the dream of getting into IB, consulting, etc.?

@michaelk2843 I definitely think that the recruiting process was a good experience for me because I definitely learned a lot. But other than that, there are plenty of different avenues to break into a career in finance, it’s never IB or bust.

Hi, I'm hoping to apply Cornell in round 3 and I'm interested in investment banking or asset management, so my question is, can I apply for asset management jobs if I do the investment banking immersion and concentration or do I just pick one path and focus on that immersion and then concentration?
@athena2597

So we actually have a separate immersion for asset management that specifically prepares you for that role.

So, the thing is that they treat Canadian Citizens in the same bracket as anyone else needing sponsorship. We’re all pretty much considered as ‘internationals’.
