Germany still doesn't have a permanent storage site for nuclear waste - many decades after the first nuclear plants were built. At some point, you have to admit that there won't ever be one. And without one, there shouldn't be any nuclear power plants. Should've phased out coal first though, but that was politically impossible at the time. And the nuclear exit did have a positive effect (though an earlier coal exit would've done the same): it created demand for additional power plants, which allowed wind & solar to become competitive through optimisation and economy of scale.

The biggest reason recyclables from first world countries end up in landfills and rivers is because of the cost and complexity of sorting them. Here in Brazil we don't separate trash, we just throw everything into plastic bags (which often are the same bags we get from the supermarket to bring our groceries home). No, glass is not glas. Glas for making bottles are very different from glas for windows (construction glas) or making light bulbs... it is not the same and therefor it most be recycelt separatly. That not difficult to understand, for americans maybe..

I mean honestly, so many rules are designed to make you never throw it in anyway and then if you do its designed to be confusing so the government can say "we tried but you contaminated this batch!" and just huck it in a landfill. If they truly wanted to recycle they'd come to you and take it unsorted and pay someone to sort it properly.

what do you mean with "can't recycle?", it is quite easy, just gotta separate glass, plastic and so on
@eas2252
Жыл бұрын
@Mastro iTek the recycling services aren't in place to take your recyclables. You can sort to your hearts content, but only one truck is coming to pick up your trash, and it's all going to a landfill. Many places that do offer recycling receive more material than they can process. The rest ends up in a landfill. Sometimes, the facilities specialize in only one or two types of plastic. The rest goes into a landfill.

The color sorting of the glass does actually not even matter, because the glasses coloring burns to cinder in the melting process. The sorting is just to teach the people that they are recycling stuff and not throwing away

I’m an American and work somewhere that we have recycling bins right next to the trash bins and literally nobody gives a fuck and just treats the recycling bins just like they’re trash bins. Honestly Germans should be proud of what they have and shouldn’t have a day where recycling a certain material is forbidden.
