Last year I won some vending machines at the auction and now I am going to scrap the two soda pop machines that have been laying in the yard for a very long time. One is a Seaga vending machine and the other is a Soda Shack RR-1400 vending machine. I scrap them out so we can recycle the copper, brass, aluminum and steel and everything can be reclaimed as much as possible.

Recycling vending machines involves properly disposing of the various components and materials to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability. Here are general guidelines for recycling vending machines:
1. *Contact the Manufacturer:*
- Start by contacting the manufacturer of the vending machine. Some companies have take-back programs or can provide information on how to properly dispose of their machines.
2. *Local Recycling Centers:*
- Check with local recycling centers or scrap yards to see if they accept vending machines. Some centers may have the capacity to handle large metal items.
3. *Metal Recycling:*
- Vending machines typically contain a significant amount of metal. Separate the metal components, such as the frame and panels, and take them to a metal recycling facility. Metal recycling helps conserve resources and reduce energy consumption.
4. *Electronics Recycling:*
- Vending machines may also contain electronic components, such as control panels, sensors, and displays. These components should be taken to an electronics recycling facility. Many electronics recycling centers have processes to safely handle and recycle electronic waste.
5. *Remove Refrigerants (if applicable):*
- If the vending machine contains refrigeration units, ensure that the refrigerants are properly evacuated and disposed of according to environmental regulations. Consult with a certified professional for refrigerant removal.
6. *Disposal of Plastics and Other Materials:*
- Separate any plastic or non-metallic components from the vending machine. Check with local waste management services to determine the proper disposal method for these materials.
7. *Donate or Sell:*
- If the vending machine is still in working condition, consider donating it to a local organization or selling it to someone who may have a use for it. Reusing the machine can be an environmentally friendly option.
8. *Consult with Waste Management Authorities:*
- Contact local waste management authorities or environmental agencies for guidance on proper disposal methods and any regulations related to recycling vending machines.
9. *Environmental Compliance:*
- Ensure that the disposal of the vending machine complies with environmental regulations in your area. Some regions have specific rules regarding the disposal of electronic waste and large items.
10. *Documentation:*
- Keep records of the recycling or disposal process, especially if there are regulations that require documentation. This may include proof of proper refrigerant disposal, recycling receipts, or any other relevant information.
Always follow local regulations and guidelines for the recycling and disposal of vending machines to minimize environmental impact and comply with legal requirements. If you are unsure about the proper procedures, consider consulting with local waste management authorities or environmental agencies for guidance.
