Below is a song description of “Where’s Ben Black Elk Today?” from the record insert with the album Journey to the Spirit World.
“Ben Black Elk was the son of the famous medicine man Nick Black Elk. Ben was at one time considered the most photographed Indian in the world. He stood at the foot of Mount Rushmore each day of the summer and greeted millions of tourists, welcoming them to his Sacred Black Hills, the burial ground of the Sioux.”
An original painting by Ed Two Bulls accompanies the song. The description goes on to say, “It is said that Ben Black Elks spirit is carved in stone up there now as the painting reflects. Buddy spent many days with Ben as a young boy and this song is dedicated to his memory and family.”
