This brings tears to my eyes and memories. Honoring a drum group with the bone whistle salute is rare, yet i witnessed such an event all the way back in 1989. The music & dancing kept up for nearly 20 minutes, as with this clip. It's true, pow wows just aren't the same as they were in the 80's. So much pride, inclusion and community that is now still there but distant.

whistled songs are on drum group's CD's and drum groups are already adding whistled songs on their composed DVD's. Like SinAlbert said there is no pipe involved no ceremony. I added these songs cuz Red Bull family asked me too. And i have lotta respect to Red Bull fam one of oldest drum groups around anyway along with Mandaree, Chiniki Lake,Ndn Nation...etc etc. If you dont like it,then dont watch. i do go by the pipe n smudge ways. And You are not my teacher, enough said. :)

and why shouldn't this be shown! it's our tradition and they need to be told and seen the way they are really are. not how a white man or historian thinks it was! and besides it does show how much pow wows and everything have changed over the years! there is a lot they changed within them that looks plain ridiculous!!! but thanks again for sharing the video! it really does keep a sense of how pow wow's used to be..what they were really about...celebrating and having fun dancing and singing!

You know, it's beautiful to see the culture in this way. Too bad some utter fools can't and won't get it. It's your land and your home long before anything went to these jerks. It's one reason I have a problem with "owning" anything, landwise, in this country.. I actually have a deed, to some land (untouched land) in the N.East. Ought to just give it back, for all of the use I get out of it. Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
