The Red-headed Woodpecker is a striking and unmistakable bird. Once a very common bird in eastern North America, the Red-headed Woodpecker is now unfortunately uncommon and local in many regions. This is the fourth season that we have had the great fortune of having a nesting pair of Red-headed Woodpeckers in our area! They come to our feeder at different times throughout the day. We are hoping to see a juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker again this year. They are short-distance or partial migratory birds and leave our area around the end of August.
