There's another song on By The Way in which Flea plays the same bassline through the whole song called "This Is The Place". He was doing this intentionally in the process of writing the songs to that album to see what the band would come up with on top of it and as a challenge to write something good and dinamic with a very simple structure, something that they do often. They are HUGE fans of simplicity in music, they always talk about the importance of it. And it makes sense, because they have strong punk rock roots.

Good review. I’m no musician but I always got the impression this would be a difficult song to pull off live. This is the best version I’ve heard live. If you have any free time, check out the studio version. I’m not sure if you’d like it more or less but it’s certainly a lot cleaner.

Hi David, I know it's not easy to like RHCP live like that at first sight. For us fans of the band it's easier, because we know the studio version. What sets RHCP apart from many other bands is their live performances, for example, you can search the videos you want and you will not find a version of this song like this one. Especially John on the guitar, he never imitates the solos of the studio version and it's not just the solos, other parts too, each live concert has its own stamp on every song. Nice job, I really like your reactions! I would like to request a song if its possible: Royal Blood - Hole Live T in the park kzitem.info/news/bejne/o2pqrmGFqWqfmG0

I’ve watched your reviews but after this one im done. You brought the score down because of john? Wtf he is what made this song great, the record version is exactly the same and im just pretty sure they all listened to it and liked the vibe the song gave. John is not the guitarrist that wants to outshine and is actualy a less is more guitarrist. He did fkn awesome in this song.

Fair enough, that you didn't like the song. I think most people like this version mainly for the energy of the performance and John's solo. Having said that, the guitar is way too loud in the mix on this show. If you listen to the album version or even the Slane Castle version, the guitar is much lower in the mix. It's more of a complimentary part of the song, than the overpowering part it's playing in this video.

Although I will say, and this is going to sound weird, I perceived John's guitar louder in the bridge and chorus only in your vid and I'm baffled. Cause I'd actually listened this performance right before I watched this reaction, and it was all fusing greatly to me. I'm baffled, it doesn't make sense.

This is debatably rhcp’s best live song. I think you would’ve enjoyed the Slane Castle version a ton better because John’s guitar was a bit lower in the mix, and Anthony’s vocals were outstanding. Of course he was younger but only 3 years younger. I request you take a listen to that version instead

@THEDavidHeretic

If I don't pause every 40 - 50 seconds, I run the risk of copyright infringement....which leads to the video getting blocked. If the video gets blocked, then no one can see it unless I put it up on the Patreon page. Problem there is, people then have to pay in order to see it...and I really don't want to take peoples money just so they can see a video. I would much rather give it to them for free. SO....in order to do that, and make sure the video doesn't get blocked on the grounds of copyright...I have to pause every 20 - 30 seconds. TRUST ME....I hate pausing. I reeeeeeeeeally wish I didn't have to, I would LOVE to just watch the video all the way through and then give all my thoughts and critiques at the end. Unfortunately that's not how KZitem works.
