About the 1962 Strat: Dave Lee, who worked as John’s guitar tech on tour from 1998 to 2007, argues that they were just basic Fender pickups found in the American Standard Stratocasters. I remember reading that and realizing John was wrong in that interview (I never told him). We were experimenting with a number of different pickups at the time. And he must’ve gotten confused. The actual pickups we settled on (and John never knew this) were stock, brand new, Fender Strat pickups. [JF Effects Interviews: Dave Lee (Guitar Tech)] I'm working on my own 1962 replica btw😎

Fun fact, Dave Lee, John's guitar tech, said that John was confused about the Seymour Duncan pickups. They needed to replace the vintage pickups and tested out a few different options, including the Duncan's. They actually settled on Fender stock pickups from the 2000s. 👍

Here's the quote: In Guitarist Magazine, june 2003, you said you tried to convince John to play Fender's replicas of its old models, but he liked the "life" that his old instruments had. Besides the original tuning pegs (replaced by Klusons) and straplocks (replaced by Schallers), is there any other modification that you made in the guitars? He said in a interview that he replaced his '62 Strat pickups for Seymour Duncans SSL-1 (like in his '55 Strat). Is there anything else besides that? When did that occured? "I remember reading that and realizing John was wrong in that interview (I never told him). We were experimenting with a number of different pickups at the time. And he must've gotten confused. The actual pickups we settled on (and John never knew this) were stock, brand new, Fender Strat pickups. The same ones Fender was putting in their brand new American Fender Strats at the time (I'll bet you weren't expecting that)."

the jaguar in the “Under the Bridge” was actually a Sherwood green finished jaguar. I agree it looks very sea foam green due to the lighting. people also confuse it with his lake placid jaguar that (from most sources i’ve read) burned in the house fire. Id kill for a lake placid or sherwood jag.

He used it to record Around the World. Switches the tone circuit on verse/chorus. He did this at Woodstock (the only time I've seen him play a Jag live), but the second volume circuit was a 0, so he completely cut out. His tech had to run on stage to switch it. I think that stopped him using it live

I mean to be fair, with EQ adjustment a jaguar neck pickup and strat neck pickup are going to be basically indistinguishable. For that particular song ive tried the into out with a jag neck and a strat neck out of curiosity both got the sound just fine, the strat was a bit brighter on the same setting but i found bringing the tone knob down a touch made it pretty equal field. Its also worth noteing jaguars are kind of all over the place, some sound very bright borderline shrill like a telecaster, some are actually very warm sounding. The japanese ones tend to be a bit bright by default.

You have a mistake ... John's favorite Stratocaster 1962 is with the original pickups... In his 1955 Stratocaster there is Seymour Duncan I read a passage he says he should put on his 1962 Seymour Duncan ... of course it's an advertisement he does for them. And you know what another problem the Pickups he had on the 1955 Stratocaster were Seymour Duncan from the 80's that they're much better pickups than their new pickups Actually the best way to get the good sound is to get a real vintage 1962 original set And besides the original set from the 60's, there are sets of Klein that fake good the sound of the Strat from 62
