Man Hillel’s guitar sounds amazing here. He was groundbreaking in my opinion, no one in that scene played like him.

The chilli peppers achieved more fame than I thought at this point. When chad talks about auditioning for an "underground band" I don't picture an underground band touring the world and playing pinkpop

he’s being sarcastic. cant you tell he’s winding his band mates up when he says that he made them instantly successful? its called “humour”

Finland was his last, check that one. Provinssirock ‘88. There is a story also how a rockband from my country (Estonia) was asked to perform at Provinssirock and on the way from harbour to the festival place the finns said tjey must pick up some band from usa. Estonians were pissed off, but it turned out to be fun band called Red Hot Chili Peppers. Of course all were stoned to the bone of drugs we never heard before (88 was when sovjet started to crumble). I remember from a recent interview that while Anthony and Flea sooke all the time, Hillel didn’t say a word, must’ve been in pain between drugs. And in next 3 weeks he was gone..

@@coreytrevor1255no chance, their funk sound would become irrelevant in the early 2000’s sound was changing and style was changing, surf and skateboarding culture became to take over with the mellower sounds and stripped back style, this era of chili peppers had too much going on, too much chorus, too much saturated guitar and the bass was very 80’s quacky sounding. John’s influence when he came back after listening to a fuck Tonne of the cure etc. brought them that real nice mellower style
