Thank you, my friend. I find the Canon drop in adapter is a quick fix but has too much play, and the ND quality is not there. Check out Firecrest Ultra filters and Kippertie adapters. Protects the image color science and locks to the lens like a PL mount.

I have been a sony user for years now and i just sold my FX3 that i filmed my first independent movie on and i bought the Red Komodo. Just waiting for it to come in as it is on back order. But my life long dream has been to own a Red and i finally get to have one.

Like you said the actual cost of this thing is 12k ish. But it does give you prestige with clients. Just the name Red is already massive. My trusty 4K is enough for me right now but Komodo would be nice ✌🏼

Great review. I do mostly 3D animation VFX work and the Komodo is a champ at providing an image that facilitates a beautiful chroma key when on HQ mode. One point of departure I would make is the dynamic range on the Komodo is closer to 13 stops. I was a bit disappointed when real world testing revealed that. The good thing is that that 13 stops handles highlights extremely well with a very graceful falloff giving the image the look of a camera that has even more dynamic range…

I don't do much with Chroma key...thats super great to know! Thanks for the info. Yes, I decided not to talk about real world dynamic range because I don't have an accurate way to measure that. But I don't disagree with you, the reported dr doesn't always match the actual dr.

How would you compare the quality of the RED RAW vs the ProRes RAW from a A7SIII ... assuming both hav the same glass. I have an A7SIII and considering upgrading to a Komodo.

Hello, I have a question and I am still undecided. I want to buy a film camera, I also make short films and also edited videos. Of course I am looking for a camera that has good color science and the Komodo has that color that I am looking for and if I have it it is worth 6,000 even though I have the money but not for many accessories and also if it is compatible with Nikon AF lenses for the Komodo, with buying an SSD card , batteries that are not cheap and I have heard that the Komodo has a problem or I do not know much about Red cameras and of course for that money you get a beast of a camera and I have also seen a bmpcc4k for 1888 with olympic lenses that also has a good camera. But I like the color of the Network better and the bmpcc 4k also has a good color but for editing the color of the network I like better because it is the one I am looking for for editing and color correction and for my short films with good cinema quality , for cool videos. I am undecided. Which one would you recommend.

Hey Jesus, I have never personally shot on the BMPCC, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. From my experience (and what I have heard) both are great cameras. I would say that if $6000 would max out your budget, definitely go with the BMPCC. While you can "technically" run the Komodo straight out of the box (minus the Cfast card) it's really not practical unless you can spend a few thousand more on accessories. I think that the BMPCC is an incredible little camera for the price, but the ergonomics aren't the best. However, their menu system is one of the easiest to navigate. I would say based on my understanding of your situation and desired setup, get the BMPCC and a film camera. Hope this helps! I'd love to hear what you end up doing.

Although this user is very personable, here is yet another red komodo review that talks about the beautiful colour and image quality but shows examples of footage and grade that look amateur and underwhelming. This camera has either been bought by people who arent skilled but see an affordable RED camera and cant resist or the camera just isnt that good. Please someone tell me I am wrong.

I haven't watched the video, straight to the comment section haha... Actually if you do a KZitem search of any previous RED camera, it's the same. Check the ranger, monstro, dragon, etc... a lot of poorly shot footage, yet all of these cameras proven and tried by professionals. Same for Arri cameras by the way! So the answer is yes, most folks on KZitem don't know how to use the camera to capture the image properly, and also suck at post production (color grading). I admit I used to believe these cameras are so expensive because they produce these stunning images. The reality is they don't. They only do that in the hands of very skilled operators. And the images that you see have been crafted by a whole team of seasoned professionals. Especially the DP at the capture stage and the colorist in post. Not to mention set designers, make up artists, location scouting, etc. To complete my answer, the Komodo is amazing and its sensor is in no way inferior to the other REDs. It's cheaper for other reasons, but as far as image quality goes, it's the same. It does take a lot of skill and experience to take real advantage of its power. Otherwise you will not see much difference than a DSLR.

Anyone who says differently will get a Stern “what for” from me! Had just sat down with my morning tea and honey when I got the alert for a new video!
