Over the years I’ve tried several different tank sealing products. Some have ridiculous 2 or 3 prep steps. Nothing beats Red-Kote. Easy to use and works great. I no longer even think about other products. Hell, the hardest thing about using Red-Kote is getting that damn white hard plastic seal off the can. Lol

Coating a brand new fuel tank that I bought from YOU, had painted, only to find out it has a pinhole in the top next to the gas cap. I hope no prep was involved for a BRAND NEW FUEL TANK. Thankfully, my painter said bring it back after the welding/coating is done and she'll fix it cheap. Thanks z1 Enterprises for not telling us these tanks are not tested for quality assurance/control. I would have just bought a used tank and coated had I known.

Not to defend them but everywhere I searched for a new tank for my bike all warned that I need to test it as well as seal it for pinholes and to prevent rust. So I guess unless we pay someone to do that all for us we are stuck dealing with it no matter who we get the tank from. Which makes me wonder why they don't just test and seal them at the factory. Cost savings I imagine and China.

30 bucks at O'Reilly's. This stuff is tougher than shit. It will suspend almost anything left in the tank, rust, flakes or whatever. Dries to a toughness like a basketball. Seals Anything, period. I spilled a small puddle on my garage floor years ago and left it there just for observation. It shows zero wear in spite of being walked on constantly. We've poured every manner of chemical from carb cleaners to oven cleaners & paint removers on it. Nothing touches it. I'm not sure I could get it off with a chisel. It's about like molasses, put it in, roll it around, pour out the excess. In a day or so when you can no longer smell it in the tank, you are done. I refuse to even try anything else after too many misses with the others.

Thanks for that info. I was reluctant to get a new tank after hearing horror stories about sealing but I am much more confident to try it now. Seems all the new tanks for my bike require sealing but come unsealed. Now I am not stuck with the stock tank.

Hey Gang, Have a Moto Guzzi Breve 1200 sport and the plasctic tank weeps, blisters and swells to a point where I can not get it back on the bike. This was/is also an issue with Ducati and Harley plastic tanks. Once the tank is drained and dried, it should regaing its OEM shape and I'll be able to get it back on. However, I'm trying to find a product to seal the inside that will make it impervious to the effects of the ethenol so this won't happen again. Is the Red-Kote safe for use on a plastic tank?

Highly recommend staying away from RedKote. Great video but RedKote is a very dated product. When it was created gasoline did not have nearly as many additives as it does today. I used this video and others like it to choose RedKote as the product I would use to line my own tank. I used Shell gasoline for a few weeks after adding the tank liner with no issues whatsoever. When Shell was closed one night, I had to resort to a Mobil station instead. One of the many additives in Mobil’s fuel reactivated the tank liner and gave me more fuel issues than I had before putting the liner in to begin with. I then had to tediously remove the RedKote from the tank, prep the tank once again for another lining, and this time went with POR-15. Haven’t had any issues since. For anyone watching this video that is looking to line their fuel tanks, let this be a fair warning and indicator while deciding which product to use. I would NEVER EVER use RedKote again, especially after all that I went though because of it. Turned into an absolute nightmare.

I am wondering if I can use this in a plastic gas tank off a dirt bike. Most tank sealers dry solid, and therefor will crack if the bike is dropped or when the pressure builds an flexes the plastic. however you say this is flexible and will never crack.. My dirtbike is a 1981 kdx175 and the only problem is the leaky tank. just wondering if a $30 can of this can save me from buying a $250-$470 new tank

@@JD-hh9io I bought a gallon of Evaporust last week, and tried it in two old lawn mower tanks. Basically had little to no effect, even when left overnight. IMO it's good for very light rust only. I ended up buying a large bottle of BB's and shaking the tank with water, over and over and over and over like 20 times, rinsing periodically, then after removing the BB's, cleaning the tank the rest of the way with SIMPLE GREEN solution. I wish there was a better way to get rid of all that rust without all the work.

What happens when you're working on a Honda Shadow gas tank and you can't get all the excess red kote out
@whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306

Why wouldn't it come out? Just make sure the petcock hole and fuel fill hole are not clogged. Assuming you removed the tank which you have to in order to cote it all over. The excess will be liquidy and should pour right out. If you let the excess harden that is another story. It's not really excess anymore then.
