There were frequent subway fantrips in the 1960s and 1970s but became less in the 90s.

The R30s should have never had been replaced even though adding A/C would of made them heavier. That's something no one can disagree with.

@@lol-ug2ry yes the hell they did I remember clear as day I read up on how they made them both R33ML and R33WF and they had Air conditioned car the R32 did to around that time I remember riding the R32 and hearing the Heating System kick on in winter but due to old Age Both R32 and R33 AC and Heating systems would break down the R30 didn't have Heating or AC they had open air Windows on all car but near the end of their life it became a Safety issue so they took it out

As a kid I remember riding R27/R30s on the BMTs. I grew up in Bushwick and remembered them the most on the J, L, and M trains just to name a few before they got replaced by R40, R40Ms and R42s. I rode my last trip on the R30s when they transfered to service on the C and H trains in the early 90s.

I'm trying to remember if i was on this Fan Trip. I know I rode an R-30 trip but not sure if it was this one. Love the music!! Reminds me of all those 70s movies set in NYC, especially the cop movies.

@thesubwaynut Oh that's true what I meant was that the R30s and the R27s were retired prematurely. The MTA overhauled 24 R27s mostly GE cars with a few WH cars. The R27s that were painted red were retired very shortly after being repainted. Some of them went to the scrapyard with wet paint still. You can't expect something mechanical that had little maintenance to improve overnight it takes time. It took the R36 cars almost a decade to significantly improve in terms of MDBF.

If the system was as extensive as it was in the 1930's and all unused express tracks and rush hour services were in use, there would still be a spacial need for retired trains such as the R30. Despite a lack of A/C, with the proper maintenance the R30s and the other redbirds could still be running to this day.

Great and joyful clip. Here in Moscow sometimes happening fantrips on the museums streetcars, but in the underground there are no retro-trains. Only individual cars stands in the depots and never show to public. What does it mean "golden age of subway fan trips"?
