Here is a splendid and interesting example from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria of a cluster of shiny golden to bronze-red intergrown pentagon dodecahedral Pyrite crystals. I have seen such specimens labelled as 'red' Pyrite. The Pyrite crystals are partly coated by, most probably, a Goethite film. Minor silvery Galena also present.
Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.
Thank you for watching.
