Cleaning the skimmer is one of those oddly satisfying moments for me. As much as I would rather not touch the organics, when that cup comes out squeaky clean It feels great lol.

Awesome video Cam ;) Do you filter the seawater cam? - Also is that a 350? (like the 4ft or is it the 5ft? I have heard that unfiltered natural seawater provides organisms the corals love (like plankton) and they grow faster - why would people filter it? Parasites?

You use locally sourced water. But if the GBR is bleaching should you still use that same water. N what about hitchhikers, is there a filtration process?
@GalleryAquaticaTV
4 жыл бұрын
The GBR is bleaching from high temperature so all I need to do is let the water cool a few degrees before I use it. We double filter it through mechanical filtration. Cam

How can you clean equipment in dirty water?
@GalleryAquaticaTV
4 жыл бұрын
Easy, we aren’t looking to sterile anything, just remove built-up waste and bacterial silt. In the case of filter media it’s actually wrong to clean it in anything other than water from the tank so you specifically preserve the beneficial bacteria. Cam

Great video! But what are the actual parameters of seawater collected from The GBR? It's suprisingly difficult to find a trustworthy source that explains the parameters we are interested in as reefkeepers. :) I'd like to keep my corals in the same parameters, since they are from Australia

We collect our water 500km south of the GBR. I always forget to take my test kits when I visit there, I’m always too focused on the diving... cam

@@GalleryAquaticaTV Well I can't blame you for that :D It is however very difficult. Some sources say 9 dkh, some 6, and nitrates range from 0.1-10... So confusing

The GBR is 2000 kms long. There is no doubt a variety of levels for all parameters depending on the exact location...

Just a kinda off topic question for you Cam. I have been in the hobby for about 17 years and recently had a bad infection in my knuckle from a cut while working on my tank and apparently there is a strain of bacteria that marine aquarists can get nasty infections from. Have you heard anything about this or experienced a bad infection from working on marine tanks. Love your vids as always :)
