Jamel -- To clarify the difference between the two: The Midnight Special was a live-performance show in a concert setting so there was seldom any dancing. Soul Train was a dance show that played mostly recorded songs for dancers BUT would occasionally invite in live performers to provide the music while dancers still danced. BTW -- I'm STILL hoping you will please react to Barry Manilow's Midnight Special performance of "Tryin' To Get The Feeling Again": kzitem.info/news/bejne/um6hvqmOhYamlWU

Yes Redbone was Native American, & the Dance is called the "Fancy Dance", Pan-Indian dancing, Fancy Feather or Fancy War Dance is a style of dance some believe was originally created by members of the Ponca tribe in the 1920s and 1930s, in an attempt to preserve their culture and religion. It is loosely based on the War dance. Please react to more, they have many hits out there!!! Luv your reaction Brother's 😊

Man, if you ain't dancing after the first few bars of that song, you're comatose! Sadly, vocalist/guitarist Candido "Lolly" Vasquez-Vegas (Performed vocals on this song) and vocalist/guitarist Tony "T-Bone" Bellamy are no longer with us, Vasquez-Vegas having passed in 2010 and Bellamy in 2009. The word "Redbone" is a Cajun term for a mixed-race person, which the band adopted to signify their mixed ancestry. The Vasquez-Vegas brothers were of Yaqui, Shoshone, and Mexican heritage. The band often alluded to Cajun and New Orleans culture in their lyrics and performing style. "The Witch Queen of New Orleans" is one example of the Cajun influence in their music.

Yes, they had a beautiful culture and they were excellent Guardians of this land. Europeans who invaded referred to them as savages. It was the Invaders who were the savages! Millions of Indigenous People slaughtered. Then they slaughtered the Buffalo of the Plains to starve the People, and deprive them of all the parts of the buffalo (bison) for shelter, blankets, rugs, clothing, tools, sewing needles, combs for their beautiful long hair. Every bit was used; nothing was wasted.

You guys are so much fun to watch! I can only imagine the antics that happened when you all were growing up! Your poor momma...

Saw them in concert. A great concert and to see their pride in their heritage.

Redbone was the first Native American band to achieve a Top 5 single on the Billboard Hot 100.

Love that song! I have to admit, I have never actually see the band preform before. Had no idea about their heritage, that’s one of my favorite things about music, great songs do not have racial identity. Great music is great music no matter what!
