Can we do some changes in these creative fabrica images making our own design , else this will come under copyright issue, right ?

My family does a lot of puzzles. Related to your tips on avoiding large chunks of white space (2:45): when someone is doing a puzzle, they need ways of identifying where different parts of the puzzle are in relation to each other. Large chunks of white space - or ANY flat color - make this almost impossible to do. Pieces end up being much too similar to each other, which makes completing the puzzle immensely frustrating (if we bother to finish it at all). Trust me: puzzlers only make the mistake of purchasing such a puzzle ONCE, and ever afterwards, we avoid similar designs because we know it's not worth it. It's better to have a design that takes up the whole puzzle, with enough color/shading/texture variation in the background that someone can look at a piece and say, "I think that goes somewhere around this spot..." Your rainbow background for your last puzzle was an excellent tweak (8:00), because someone can pick up a piece and know approximately where it goes. ("Approximately" being the key word - don't want it to be TOO easy. It's a fine line to walk.) Anyway, just some additional tips for anyone looking into making puzzles from someone who does them.

Yes it is definitely hit and miss. They are not a huge seller but I have sold a few and the markups can be pretty juicy.

Wonderful information, thank you. I really don't know how RB justifies the costs of their items. $40+ for a jigsaw puzzle? I get they''re unique but that is just wow. I'm just too cheap to every buy anything from them.

Thank you for this information but unfortunately jigsaw puzzles sell very little on Redbubble.

It is definitely a niche market 👍

I was worried that Redbubble would not like the fact my puzzle image would be considerably different to the other items?

99% of these sites are run by bots, so as long as there is nothing that violates the terms & conditions, they won’t care about the artistic merit in a design.

EPISODE REQUEST: I've been watching your videos for a while now, and I have a RB shop, but I honestly don't know where, or how, to actually create the designs. It would be really helpful if you made a beginner's tutorial on this. I know you mention a few design programs, so maybe you could just use the most beginner-friendly (?). Maybe this is more of a Crafty Stax topic, but either way, I'm sure many others would greatly appreciate it!

It is easier just to flip your image and enlarge it so the puzzle would be in portrait.

Best tip is to rotate the image from vertical to horizontal and upload that as the puzzle. In other words put it sideways and resize it as much as possible to fit the space. It keeps the cohesiveness of the design together without having something radically different suddenly show up and it works. Sure then the puzzle will be taller rather than wider but better that I think than a bunch of empty space. - Heidi

@@Chad-Tyrone-Pookey maybe not but I would buy one that was vertical rather than horizontal versus seeing one horizontal that seemed out of place with the design on the other products... so trying it out anyway. I will let you know if one sells. :P Thanks for your input. - Heidi

@@Chad-Tyrone-Pookey Also not just kids do puzzles... many of my designs are not for kids anyway but for adults. I love puzzles. It's relaxing and doesn't matter to me what the orientation is. It's more about the picture. I bet someone said the same thing about those 3d puzzles and I LOVE those! - Heidi

Awesome, thanks so much for this, Zen! Just one question, please. I missed the blend mode for the wood and hippo. Is it simply “multiply”? Did you do anything else to it? Thanks so much.
@zenwatercooler

Yes exactly, I love multiply and also soft light. Sometimes if you use soft light you have to copy the layer 2-6 times, but the effect can be really unique!
