Thanks so much for posting this! Great help to see someone going through the motions rather than just reading the manual alone.

@djcolin Hi - Yes this is still relevant. The interface is unchanged in Beta 7. Most of this tutorial actually applies to the older "RedCine X 501" as well - but the bin organization interface is different. Things mostly change under the hood. Read the release notes on each specific version to see exactly what is new. Usually it gets more and more stable as time goes on. As Far as ProRes 4444 - I leave it at Millions of Colors+. It should be virtually indistinguishable though to the human eye.

Hey Mark - The RMD files are metadata sidecar files. I recommend making one for each project that you start. This lets you manage the RMD files separately if you have to duplicate a backup.

I got screwed up by setting a master RMD folder. Do NOT set a folder. This way, the RMD for each file is saved in the same folder as the footage. ONLY THEN will Premiere CC(2014.2 build for Mac) find it. I lost a couple hours wrestling with this. Otherwise, this really helped me!

+tallguyproductionz Good point - if you were trying to duplicate looks on a backup drive for instance, after already backing up footage, master RMD folder helps, but otherwise, if you can't relink the looks, it DOESN'T help... I have to work on recommending a program that will let you duplicate the RMDS easily after already backing up your raw footage across two drives.

Great video! Just curious how much has changed since beta 7 has come out? I just downloaded the latest and watched your video and am wondering if much has changed at all or this is still super relevant?. Also curious about ProRes4444 - do you leave it at millions+ when you unchecked gamma from auto or just millions? cheers and thx for creating this helpful video! looking forward to more sir :)

+obscura films. No idea. You can export video to whatever format you want from this program, and then edit it in Vegas. Check out Davinci Resolve 12...

+Mr.Swag Money Yes, this program is only for RED .r3D files from Red cameras. If you want something universal that will allow you to do color correction AND editing - Check out Davinci Resolve 12... it's THE SHIT.

what video formats is red cine x compatible with?
@ItsNotFlare
7 жыл бұрын
Redcine X takes r3d files as input and exports them to basically whatever codec you want or as stills. It has changed _a lot_ since this tutorial. If you need general purpose video editing, color and transcoding for other cameras try the FREE Davinci Resolve.

daniel kanes t.y. I downloaded and tried to import videos from my osmo and gh4. resolve is good. but 4k is not so much supported on my laptop. I have decent specs a 1060 6gb with a icore i7 6700hq. the only editing software that has supported 4k or uhd for me is adobe. I tried every video editing software out. but thanks for the response.

daniel kanes one more question. is there a way to convert files to r3d files to make them compatible?
@ItsNotFlare
7 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no. Here is my recommend for Resolve - need to make sure your CUDA nvidia drivers are straight and set up your proxy mode in Resolve. Should work GREAT on your specs there, just need to get your settings dialed in. Maybe your hard drive is too slow or you are trying to edit right off the SD card ? I can't really help you get all your settings dialed for Resolve but someone out there should be able to do so. Resolve really needs your GPU and if there is some driver disconnect or the like you will struggle.

t.y. for taking ur time to reply. I guess I just like adobe because there is no settings that need to be done in order for it work with 4k. just drag and drop the files.

I know everyone has their own way of exporting, but when it comes to speed and time for exporting red footage, everyone wants the fastest efficient way, right? Well I have the solution for your time problem, email and i will tell how to export redicine clips in less than 10seconds per clip.
