"REDEEMER" //
Reflections from our songwriter, Melanie Lee, on the story behind the song.
Based on Isaiah 43, this song was written six years ago. Although only getting published today, this song has been like a hidden anthem in my walk with the Lord. Many of us, including myself, have gone through or may still be through hard times today.
But Isaiah 43 reminds me that no matter how much our circumstances tempt us to despair or threaten to overcome us, there is always a promise of redemption in our good God. There is no one too far gone or nothing too difficult for Him to redeem and restore.
This song has been a declaration of faith in the unchanging character of God, speaking life into some of my life’s deepest valleys. May this song encourage you to lift your eyes to Jesus, especially to those of us who might be walking in the valley.
‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.’

Lyrics:
Sing O barren one
Though the emptiness it echos, you were made to bear His praise
Sing afflicted one
Overwhelmed by all the trials, lift your eyes behold His face
For our God is great in compassion and love
Never leaves His righteous ones ashamed
Redeemer, praise the name of Jesus Christ
The Holy One of Israel is our Redeemer
Sing O might one
Was abandoned to the grave, now adopted by the King
Sing victorious one
Overcast by the darkness, but death where is your sting?
For our God is steadfast, faithful, and kind
Gave His life to set us free
Though I walk through valleys of shadow of death
You’re always there before me by day and by night
