So when DKC came out I was starting my freshmen year in high school and my best friend and I preordered the game at Toys R Us and got that ridiculous T-Shirt that had Donkey Kong's head blown up on the front of it and we both wore it high school on the same day and can't tell you the amount of bizarre and head-shaking looks we got from everyone. On top of that, I had a subscription to Nintendo Power at the time and got the jungle leaf packaged VHS tape that had a preview of the game. Still have to it this day have since backed it up onto my external HDD.

That's such a cool story! Who would've thought a game preorder could lead to such a memorable day at school? I do remember that shirt and actually just looked it up again. Such an amazing shirt. I would 100% rock that shirt today! Dude, I always say that when it comes to the Nintendo Power VHS tapes, you had to be there to experience what it was like to receive one of those VHS tapes in the mail. As a kid growing up in the 80s/90's, the only mail you ever received was from magazines and that was always something we looked forward to receiving. The amount of excitement I felt as a kid when my Nintendo Power magazine also came with a VHS Promo Tape can't even be put into proper words. I still have my DKC which I'm sure you recognized it but I used some footage from that tape on my video. The only other tape I still have is the N64 "Change the System" tape that came out before launch. I can't even tell you how many times I watched that tape, especially the Star Wars Shadows of the Empire preview. That was a game that I had preordered at Toys R' Us and I distinctly remember it cost $79.99 which was insane at the time! It is awesome that you backed them up to your external HDD. Those tapes are just super 90's and I love that about them!
