Although I don’t speak the language fluently - , I grew up honoring Vietnamese culture and traditions. - Tiny red envelopes of money on Tet New Years, Vietnamese Church, and watched the popular Vietnamese Variety show Paris By Night with my ba noi - thats how you say grandmother on your dads side in Vietnamese by the way- . I worked in my family businesses & prepared and ate the food. I’m considered your average “Viet Kieu” - a Vietnamese living abroad.
I’ve Been to Vietnam once before, Last time without a camera so that I could capture the true feeling of presence.
This time, I wanted to capture that same feeling for my future generations to see through my eyes. To pay homage to the past and present, with a couple of laughs along the way.
