Just ordered a variety of colors on eBay already rooted. Have not had good luck with a purple one previously. Thanks for your tips and will try again.

Thanks! Got a few of these (the orange variety) from a friend and been killing them slowly...they’ve just shriveled up because I’ve only been keeping them in bark and sphagnum moss and not watering enough, even though they are not in direct sunlight. Not much info out there on these so definitely appreciate this video. I will repot with some soil, bark and perlite and see if I have better luck! Gonna put them out back in the sun as well just to see what happens, hopefully I get some growth because I only have two tiny stalks left! Beautiful plants and views btw! I’m in South Florida too but in the burbs...

You're welcome! I think it would be good to gradually get your epi back into sunlight. Maybe start in part-sun then in a week or so move them into full sun. Should do better. And yes water is important. Cheers M

I bought the orange ones as a memorial for my cat and have been having a hard time controlling it. It propagates constantly with no soil. Thanks for the care tips. I hope to fix them up this week

Sorry to hear about your cat. But I am so glad you got an orange epi, they are robust growers! Our orange epis are flowering like crazy right now!😀🪴

In SCA these grew like weeds outside in rock or directly in ground in full sun. The only issue arose when we had some unusual weather - sleet, hail, and snow - which seriously damaged them. In AZ I've found that cannot take sustained 110 degree temperatures day after day particularly full sun which has resulted in death.

Exactly I want to do when I buy mine. Except I live in NC and keep indoors in winter. Out in the summer. How do I take care in the winter? Thanks!

If you are keeping them in NC, you will need a south facing window or sun room if you have for the reed stems to winter over. And avoid cold drafts. 😀🪴

Thanks a lot for the recipe for the potting mix. I am not very pleasantly suprised with the view of the center of Miami full of concrete, but very poor with the green, trees. Approx. 5% looks green. So sad. Greetings.

Hi there. Yes, Miami City center and Brickell area has few green spaces. But Million Trees Miami and I are doing our best to green it up by designing/installing more trees everywhere I can.😀🪴

how to plant the epidendrium in what soil
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN

Hi! Our latest updated soil mix: 2 parts cactus/1 part perlite/2 part Dendrobium mix (bark/charcoal/lava rock mix)/ 1 part perlite and 1 part potting mix. Main thing to do is to make sure you make soil loose and chunky. Epis like a super well drained potting mix. Hope this helps! 😀 🪴

Are they slow growing? You planted more than one plant in a pot. How long will it take for the plant to fill your pot?
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN
Жыл бұрын
Hi! Yellows, reds and pinks are slower growers and took about a year to fill out the 18" pot . The orange flowering variety however, can really take off and grows fast if she is happy. 😀🪴

I was gifted the orange one. I was told that I could break off any wild stems that were too long and simply stick them in soil and they would generate new plants. Do you have any thoughts on this? I have tried it but the stems or sticks never take root.

We have about a 80% success rate on rooting orange epi from stems. I suggest you make sure you have some aerial roots showing at stem nodes before you propagate. Place roots 1/2 inch under soil ( not deep) and water occasionally. She should then take root in a few weeks if you start the process in spring. Hope this helps 😀🪴

Hi! It's best to use new, fresh charcoal. You can wash it before-hand if you want to to remove some of the charcoal dust, but it's not necessary for performance.😀 🪴
