Wow, so much information! Great. I am getting worried to appear in my garb in case people are looking to see if I hand stitched it all, or wove the fabric!

+LibellulaGlass My opinion on garb is that its a personal choice. Not too many people weave their own fabric and if they do great, but for most reenactment it's not necessary as long as it's the right colours and weaves. I personally do most of the sewing on my garb with a sewing machine, high stitch count, with heavier than average thread, and finish it off with all visible seams hand sewn. I do this because I feel like lock stitch is more durable and I put my garb through the ringer with combat and various activities around camp. It's all up to you, as your skills increase and you "level up" your kit, you may choose to use had woven fabric that was naturally dyed and hand sewn as a matter of pride, or not. all that matters is that it looks the part.

I've a question. In the Western and military reenactor community( particularly the Civil War), we use the terms farb and farbism to descibe reenactorisms. The Civil War community is quite serious and take historical accuracy seriously. Farbs are seriously mocked. If you wear sunglasses, you will get at least one syphilis joke. Does the medieval reenacting community have a similar term?

You're absolutely right about the civil war! I recently started and haven't even put together my full kit yet! I hear about my glasses all the time because that is the only real farbism that I have. I usually shut it down quick by saying "I'm new, where can I get appropriate frames?" It's usually someone who doesn't need them so they just get that dumbfounded look.

also there are some sources on how to throw a sword but they're small and they're much later also i think fiore said it wasn't that effective

And Fiore is about as far from Viking as Ragnar Lothbrok is from Spartan. The quality of the steel of the Viking age would have meant a throw of a sword would most likely break it.

Thorbjorn Jorkelsson i did say it was much later dude and i don't think we have fighting manuals in the viking age like we do for later centuries but yeah you're probably right

Do you participate in "Slavs and Vikings festival Wolin in Poland"? It's probably the biggest festival about pre-christian middle age. I was once but only as a spectator.

+Paweł Michalski No I do not. The Organization the runs it is Jomsborg and I'm with The Vikings! Vinland. Which is the north american chapter of The Vikings! UK. I would love to go to Wolin but not sure I'd be able to fight there.

+Thorbjorn Jorkelsson As someone UK based who's researched a ton into Wolin the way they do it is that if you register your group then you can represent your group and join the attackers, so the battles there end up being mix and match groups against Jomsborg :)

Question, do you know of any links to any decent woollen/linen tunics from a reputable website that's UK based? :) Cheers I wish I could make my own but I don't have the time

+Scott LeviHeichou Rivaille I do not, unfortunately. But one thing you can do is contact a re-enactment group in your area, and they should either know of one, or know someone who can make you a custom one.

The society I'm with defines it, somewhat improperly as two weapons being used simultaneously, basically dual wielding.
