@AblazeSandman

Technically it's bonding, not "grounding". If I remember right, the bonding lug is on the fuselage just inside the main gear bay for a 737. I know that some airlines have policies on if you're allowed use a bonding pin inside the panel (I don't know why other than the reason I'm about to state), but Boeing built the plane with at least these two locations so it should be perfectly safe to do so. My problem was working on older aircraft, the pin hole was very loose and wouldn't hold the pin very well. It would just fall out.

@AblazeSandman
16 күн бұрын
Exactly what @kattn01 said. To add more reasons, even if you didn't have to contend with ramp workers, I've never seen a fuel truck that operates from the right side. You would have to back in. Unless you're a rookie with a partner or work for safety nazis, you won't have a guide-man to help you and that 10k is not particularly easy to see around. And before someone says to pull in parallel to the front of the wing, the truck is freaking long and the hose is somewhere in the middle. You can see how far beyond the leading edge the cab is. For This truck, he did it right.

Transport category airplanes are refueled before every flight in 99% of cases due to weight
@AblazeSandman

I'll take a stab at a response. I'd say there are a lot of factors involved with answering this. I'm pretty sure this is a 10,000 gallon (38,500 liter) fuel truck. The amount of fuel the plane takes is pretty random in my experience. Are they tankering fuel so they don't need refueling at the next airport? How far is the flight? What kind of headwind are they facing? Are there major storms that they need to fly around? International jumbo jet or small passenger puddle jumper? How scared are you (the fueler) that you'll run out of fuel while re-fueling your next flight? I've gone days in that same truck not having to re-load until the end of my shift having been on over 20 aircraft. Then again, I've refueled a 747 that drained my truck 3 times by itself. Two flights could about empty you with 4500 gallons a piece, or you could get 9 flights only taking 1000 gallons. The uncertainty is why it's fun, right?

i feel you, those airbuses take 6 dark ages to fuel. at my local airport, for example, a lot of transatlantic flights have been switched from a wide body over to the a321neo for fuel efficiency. most of them are taking around 6000-7000 gallons. it takes so ridiculously long to finish fueling them. boeing, although having major publicity issues now, are much better to fuel. depending on the truck, most a321s fuel at around 190-240 gpm. compare that to a 737 which fuels at 400 gpm, or a 777 at 800 gpm. the difference is insane!

Are regular guide men a new thing? It might be an individual company thing. I never had a guide backing off of aircraft, and it was usually much busier than what he's got going on in this video.
