I use one of these. Replaced a Cyrus Signature phono/PSXR costing twice the price. As usual with Rega the money goes on the audio sections and not the facilities and extras.

Great, nice to get confirmation that it’s good, as I’m waiting to receive one👍 I’m moving up from a Fono MM, which I preferred the signature of over the integrated phono stages in amps from Exposure, Croft and Parasound with the Rega Exact (maybe not a fair comparison).

Rega state that the Aria default settings are what is recommended for their own MC cartridges but I've found (with a P8/Apheta 3) that their gain setting is actually too high. You can run a line out to your computer and see it saturating the wave form, particularly on LPs that are cut "hot", and even more particularly on 12" singles. The lower gain setting gives much better results.

I use the Rega Aria mk2 and absolutely love it, very natural sounding with a beautiful tonality, everything sounds real and balanced, lots of detail without throwing it in your face, very low noise and superb soundstage. It's a perfect match with my ATvm740ml cart

@@rabarebra I’m considering buy an Aria Mk 3 for my P8 and Hana SL combo. The Hana will need replacing fairly soon so was going for the Apheta 3 to complete an all Rega setup, but a few comments on here have made me doubt this upgrade path now! What is the ‘noise’ exactly is it just increased surface noise from the record or a rumble/hum? Cheers

@@lifeofvinyl3003 I just find it amplifies the Ania Pro with too much background noise. And I also use the recommended settings on the Mk3 specifically for the Ania Pro stylus given in the manual by Rega themselves. It is also sensitive to surrounding equipment, so I tried another location, but you are restricted by the length of the turntable's cables in this case, of course. The Aria Mk3 picks up noise from my AV-receiver, so I put the Aria Mk3 on the other side of the turntable instead. But there is still quite some noise coming from the Aria Mk3. For the price it is OK, but if you want the best thing, you need the Aura, but it costs at least $5000. BUT you will need a mixer and/or a pre-amp that has balanced inputs to take advantage of this. If not, just buy a noisy Aria Mk3. My main assumption is that the Aria's power supply is just too noisy compared to the Aura which is much more pro, plus the balanced outputs differences on the Aura, which eliminates disturbances to the signal.

@@rabarebra many thanks for your reply it was slightly too late I picked up my Aria Mk 3 on Saturday afternoon and straight out of the box I think it sounds absolutely amazing! I use a Hana SL cart and it really makes it sing - I am not getting any noise with it at all it’s way, way better than my previous Pro-jet phono stage which was no slouch to be honest. I am using the lower gain setting of 63.5db for the Hana and I know with the Rega carts it says to use the higher gain setting so perhaps that leads to increased noise? I’m sure, but it could be as you have already wondered that your other kit is adversely affecting it. I couldn’t have my my old Supernait 2 anywhere near my Pro-ject phono stage otherwise it was noisy as hell. Anyway I couldn’t be more pleased with the sound. I am thinking when I have to replace the Hana SL that instead of an Apheta 3 I might go for the Hana ML instead but I’m hoping I can try them before I decide. Take care cheers

I would guess that naming most of their products beginning with E or A is because those are the two vowels in the word Rega.

Thanks for doing this review. As far as you know, is there a difference between the mk3 version and it’s immediate predecessor? Can you recall if the earlier version sounded identical to the latest mk3 or is it just the slightly altered case? . just the case

Is there any benefit to using the Aria to the phonostage found in the Elex or Elicit? Specifically for the Rega 3? Or is this more redundancy than relevance...

My Aria 2 is quiet as a mouse. That is unless it gets within 5 feet of my Isotek Substaion mains isolation transformer, then I get audible magnetic induced hum. On the other hand I found it had the best radio interference rejection of all the phonostages I tried. Others I tested didn't seem affected by magnetic fields so much but they were all way more susceptible to hiss and those odd beeps and buzzes form mobile phone signals etc.
